An MRI of what happens inside our mouths when we speak.
Our last post shared an article describing different social skill components. This article outlines play and social developmental milestones and offers excellent follow up information!
< Back to Child Development Charts Play is the voluntary engagement in self-motivated activities that are normally associated with pleasure and enjoyment. It’s amazing how many different skills and abilities fall under the ‘social skills’ umbrella ☂ ...and how important each one is individually as well as collectively!
What are social skills? Social skills are the skills we use everyday to interact and communicate with others. They include verbal and non-verbal communication, such as speech, gesture, facial expression and body language. A person has strong social skills if they have the knowledge of how to behave....
Speech For Each is running a book drive to collect gently used books specifically from this list. Our therapists are working hard to develop social skills via literary exploration and meaningful practice. We would really appreciate your help and support! Together we can aid the education of our sweet youngsters and promote a wonderful sense of community!
Please PM me, or reach out through our website www.speechforeach.com, to make a donation. THANK YOU!

Spring has sprung! Help your kids grown their own grammar gardens. Once you’re done, expand the lesson by taking it outside to add meaningful, real-world context 🌱🌼🌷💐
In this activity, students will practice their grammar skills by labeling the garden picture with the correct parts of speech.

I’m feeling pumped following an incredibly productive presentation at the Winwood Children’s Center of Reston! I led a discussion with 35 engaged educators about speech-language developmental milestones, red flags, and tips for enhancing skills in the classroom.
I love this! Shake up your questions. This will challenge your littles to think more creatively, explore emotional reasoning, and expand and diversify their overall vocabulary. Imagery-rich questioning will yield imagery-rich responses!

On All Hallows Eve let’s take a few minutes to reflect on fear and bring it to new light...
Survival now is less dependent on outrunning a tiger and more on how we fit in with our co-workers and our broader community. So it makes sense that the exposure of making a public presentation would be a cause of anxiety, a close cousin to fear. When you confront something scary, be it an audience…
Fascinating! I’m thrilled to participate in training this month and to add iLS therapy to the ever-growing list of services we have to offer.

As we prepare for the start of another school year, don't forget that, as parents, YOU are your child's best advocate!
Trust your instincts. You are the expert when it comes to your child. Don’t be afraid to speak up, to stand your ground, to share what works at and what doesn’t. Your input is valuable.
That feeling when you have a marketing event deadline but the shipment of your company swag got delayed in New York...problem solved with a whirlwind road trip! These magnetic clips came out fantastically. I can't wait to share them with the community!
Special thanks to Dave McClelland for all of his help and hard work!
Welcome summer with a little kindness!

Let's be honest, true fidgets can be a blessing but these spinners play more like a toy. Here's a great way to repurpose them into a functional tool that supports, rather than distracts from, learning!
What do you do when it's the last week of school and all your students want to do is play with those fidget spinner toys? LET THEM!

ENJOY THE VIDEO:
Episode Three (3) "Autism & Theory of Mind"
I have "Theory of Mind" difficulties. And if you have autism, you MIGHT do too.
In this third episode of Agony Autie, I talk about "Theory of Mind", hopefully giving some fun tips and examples to try and improve the way we communicate with each other.
ALL people with autism have the triad of "Social, Emotional & Communication" difficulties....We can often find it hard to understand other people's emotions and perspectives, and even harder to explain our own behaviors. Difficulties understanding emotions is known as 'Alexithymia' & I struggle greatly with this...we'll of course do a separate blog on this).
If you enjoyed the video, you can 'like' my page to keep getting more. Share with your friends and family too—the way we see and talk about autism needs to change.

***Please note: we're not professionals, just a husband & wife team, using our time to make this happen. We're not professionals. This is MY interpretation of Theory of Mind. I'm only one person with autism—there're so many other stories to tell.
