This is incredible and we need this in all states! What a great way to promote both self-advocacy and community awareness!
New York state is now issuing free identity cards for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and many residents believe it's a good idea.
As a pediatric audiologist, I test children with a possible speech delay almost daily. Primary care physicians typically start referring children to audiology for concerns of a speech delay around 15 to 18 months. However, sometimes my patients are pushing 30 months when referred to me for concerns about speech and language development plateauing or regressing.
The case history with the parent starts routinely enough:
Passed newborn hearing screening? “Yes.”
Any risk factors for hearing loss? “No.”
History of ear infections? “No.”
Concerns about hearing loss? “Not really,” a parent might say. “Sometimes she ignores me, but I think it’s just her age. I’m more concerned about her not talking.”

Reducing screen time is one easy thing every family can try!
Among toddlers, spending a lot of time staring screens is linked with performing worse on developmental screening tests later in childhood, according to a new study. The study found a direct association between screen time at ages 2 and 3 with child development at 3 and 5.

Speech For Each is running a book drive to collect gently used books specifically from this list. Our therapists are working hard to develop social skills via literary exploration and meaningful practice. We would really appreciate your help and support! Together we can aid the education of our sweet youngsters and promote a wonderful sense of community!

So it makes sense that the exposure of making a public presentation would be a cause of anxiety, a close cousin to fear. When you confront something scary, be it an audience…
