ys been athletic. In high school, I played every sport, and during college I played intramural soccer. After college I played a lot of golf (which is harder than it looks!) and had gym memberships on and off. But after too many years of long commutes, sitting at a computer, overeating/eating junk, not exercising, spending time with my family, and a love for TV, my weight crept up as my health circled the drain. Software developer + couch potato + snack lover = old before my time. Not feeling the greatest, I went to the doctor for a "40-year-old check-up.” He said I was overweight, had high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and borderline high blood sugar. I’m all for honesty, but this was a bit much. He put me on high blood pressure meds and told me I had to make a change. One night, sitting on the couch eating a bowl of ice cream (hey, I walked the dog that week!), I read a high school buddy’s Facebook post about P90X. Steve’s before and after pictures were impressive, so I researched and learned it was an in-home workout program that was giving people amazing results. I decided that if he could do it, then so could I. Would this be my fitness reawakening? Would I stick with it? Could I even do such a tough program? Would I get results? Within the first 60 days of P90X, I knew the answer was YES! I saw dramatic changes. And I did it in my own home, on my own schedule. No driving back and forth to the gym (or dragging my butt there.) Because I was seeing real results, I started looking forward to working out! And my energy increased, so I enjoyed family time more and got back to a more active lifestyle like hiking, biking, and golf; things I hadn’t even realized I had cut out of my life because they took too much effort. I decided that my life would never go back to the way it was. I had found my "why." I read about the health benefits of Shakeology, and signed up as a Beachbody coach to get a discount. This got me plugged in with others working on their health and nutrition, and excited to try other exercise programs. Suddenly there was a shift, and I became fully committed to coaching because I wanted to help others find their "why" and help them conquer all their "why nots.”
