A narcissist never sees the problem in themselves because the people surrounding them are often just as toxic as they are. They are wolves in sheep’s clothing. Together, they convince themselves that they are the nicest, most innocent people in the world and that they have never done anything wrong. They have a justification for every abusive behavior, every lie, every betrayal, and every disgusting thing the narcissist does. When the narcissist hurts someone, they blame the victim. When the narcissist destroys someone’s life, they convince themselves that the person must have done something to deserve it. Because birds of a feather flock together. A genuinely good person does not keep making excuses for someone else’s cruelty. And sometimes, these enablers are even worse than the narcissist because they don’t just defend the abuse. They encourage it, normalize it, and make the narcissist believe they are completely justified in everything they do. The most disturbing part is that these people can participate in destroying someone’s life and still go to bed believing they are wonderful human beings.
