Well-said, Lance Smith…
California governors’ debate summary
Becerra: Let’s talk about Trump.
Hilton: Let’s talk about ideas.
That was the whole night.
Becerra’s tactic is simple, and it works: ignore your opponent and debate Trump. He said the name more than 40 times. So far he has offered one credential and no solutions: “I sued people.”
Too many voters are still letting anti-Trump noise do their thinking for them. They would rather punish a man who is not on the ballot than try the one thing that might actually fix this state.
Hilton named the problem clearly. Government overreach and regulation are choking California. We need someone who will take Sacramento’s hand off our throats.
Steve’s housing point was the most practical thing said all night. Cap the junk fees and added costs that pile tens of thousands of dollars onto a home before a family ever moves in. That is how you make houses affordable again, not another press conference about compassion.
The president did not build this dumpster fire. He is not the reason hundreds of thousands of Californians have fled for states that actually function. That exodus leaves the middle class and the poor holding the tax bill.
Gas is not this high because of a war. It is high because of a new 63-cent tax stacked on other taxes, dead pipelines, refiners leaving, a costly special blend, and a pile of rules no other state imposes. When the war ends, other states get relief. We will still be paying for Sacramento.
California does not have a Trump problem. It has a one-party problem.
The best moment of the night was when Becerra reached for the old line: “Isn’t the definition of insanity doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results?” Hilton didn’t miss. “Yeah. Like voting Democrat.”
The same people who ran this state into the ground are asking for another term, and their only argument is a man who does not live here.
Wake up, California.
Vote accordingly.
We have a state to save 🇺🇸.
