**HONESTY ALERT**
If there is ONE THING I can not stand for as a person, and certainly as a sleep consultant, it is dishonesty.
There is no such thing as “no tears” or “no cry” when it comes to sleep training. These are marketing tactics trying to assuage your most basic fears.
The idea that sleep training is selfish is just pure insanity as well. If caring for your baby’s entire well being - which includes their very basic need to sleep (which is where they grow and assimilate all the things they are learning) - and your OWN very basic need to sleep so you can be the parent you *want* to be - is selfish, then being “selfish” is really smart and very caring.
Having said this, I understand 10000000% that hearing your child cry for sleep training (and otherwise) is HARD. *Even when you KNOW it is for their overall GOOD!*
So here’s the deal...to get through sleep training - the 48 or so hours when you’re in the thick of it - you need to have a plan for YOURSELF.
Here’s a handy little list of ideas to try…
#1 - Put on headphones and tune out. Moms (and some Dads) sometimes have the idea that if they don’t cry alongside their child, they’re not doing it right. The opposite is true in this scenario - being strong for your kiddo will help them to feel more safe and secure.
#2 - Take a walk around the block. Physically removing yourself from the situation and getting some air can do wonders mentally and emotionally.
#3 - Spend the night somewhere else! If you have a partner who feels confident they can go it alone, and you know you’re going to struggle - don’t be there!
#4 - Bring friends. If you’re surrounded (and distracted) by your (supportive) people, things tend to go better. Go out for a girl’s night out! And for many families, by the time you get back, baby will be happily sawing logs!

Who has a friend like this in their Mommy group?! Tag her!
Mommy groups can be great👍
Mommy groups can also be... 🙃😉😍🤐🤫🤯
And when it comes to talking about your baby’s sleep in said Mommy groups, I feel like there’s 3 different types of reactions you get after you share that you’ve sleep trained, or are deciding to sleep train…
Mom Reaction #1: Total Confusion
This Mommy has no idea, or very little idea, of what sleep training actually is. She is imagining your baby doing push ups in their crib into a pillow. She is neither for or against sleep training because she doesn’t know enough to pick a side.
Mom Reaction #2: Utter Disdain
This Mommy has a very specific *idea* of what she believes sleep training is, and now pictures horns growing out of your head. She may also be the Mommy who complains the most about how tired she is from not sleeping.
Mom Reaction #3: Silent Sisterhood
This Mommy’s eyes light up, and she gives you the Fight Club-style wink of approval. She also probably texts you after the playdate to ask who you follow, what you’ve tried, and what you think.
What reaction have you received the most?? What reaction am I missing?? And what is the most *common* question you get asked by Mom #1 or Mom #3?
It's the dead stare for me 🤣😠
