Insight Pelvic Health We help take control of the 4 P’s: peeing, pooping, pleasure, and pain to live your best lives.

Do you like to run? Have you held off from running due to pain, leaking, or other discomforts?
The impact on your body while running is absorbed differently depending on your form. In pelvic health, we often see the effects of hitting your heel first versus hitting mid-foot or on the ball of your foot first. Dr. Julie explains the difference of impact in both scenarios. Avoid heel strike running to protect your pelvic floor!
On your next run, pay attention to your form and reach out to us if you have questions.

Break the stigma of menopause with open conversations, support, and understanding that no journey is the same and this change can bring different phases every day!

Support your body as you approach this change and support your body as it transitions. Talk with your healthcare team to find the best ways for YOUR journey! Here are some key areas to focus on:
Nutrition and Hydration
Movement and Exercise

There is power in knowledge, especially when it comes to big life transitions! We know that one day 50% of people will experience menopause, a season that we used to dread. Thankfully, hormonal health has met some amazing milestones and the amount of resources and support available helps make this life changing season a bit easier.
Perimenopause is the natural transition period leading up to menopause. During this time estrogen and progesterone levels fluctuate and decline, making every journey unique. Understanding your body and its changing needs during this window is vital.
Try to focus on these four areas to best support your individual journey and your body's needs:
Decrease stress
Eat a balanced diet
Exercise
Sleep

This is not a problem to fix, it is a transition to honor and understand as your journey into a new adventure unfolds! Please reach out if you have questions.

October is health literacy month! As pelvic health specialists, we believe that understanding your health plays an important part in accomplishing your goals! In pelvic health, it is especially important that patients understand what the pelvic floor actually is and what we expect it to do.

What should we do before we have symptoms of pelvic floor dysfunction?
Have a pelvic floor therapist and get your pelvic floor checked out to be sure it is in good shape and functioning properly.
When you do not have symptoms is the best time for your pelvic floor therapist to know what your baseline is.
Seeing your pelvic floor therapist once a year is great for pelvic health.

What should we know as symptoms arise or increase?
No one should have to live with pelvic floor symptoms or pain!
If symptoms do not resolve on their own within one week, then please seek care.
Seeing a pelvic floor therapist who does internal work is key to lasting changes.

At Insight our therapists talk to patients throughout their entire visit. Patients know step-by-step what their therapist is doing so that they feel comfortable and understand their health. Be sure to always ask for clarification from your health care team. Your voice is the most important in your care journey!

Each of us carry our own story. Mental health is a piece of our everyday life and in many cases mental illness is heavier than we may know. From personal experience, Dr. Julie has learned how heavy the journey can feel and how easy mental health conditions can be overlooked. We believe in holding space for mental health in all of life's seasons!
Here is an excerpt from Dr. Julie's blog, you can read her full story on our website: "As a healthcare professional, I think the most important thing about our jobs is recognizing everyone for what they are experiencing and feeling no matter what. At Insight, all of the therapists are trained to acknowledge and recognize what someone is going through to be their own experience. It is not our job to change your experience. It is our job to hold space for your experience and to help you feel what you need to feel in order to allow your body to heal. "

Women's Health and Fitness Day is recognized every year as September comes to a close. Why do we value celebrating this day? Because movement is SO essential in daily life and our bodies thrive from the benefits movement offers! Like the pelvic floor, health and fitness are about so much more than what you see on the surface.

At Insight, we work with many patients during their pregnancy and postpartum seasons. Returning to exercise is one of the most requested goals. Because doing too much too soon can be a huge set back, we offer a "Return to Running" program! A series of evaluations of movement and exercises help our patients safely return to the physical activities they love.

In addition, we also offer this to patients in any season who are returning to exercise, whether that be after an injury, a surgery, or any other reason. The pelvic floor muscles need time to heal and need to be working together properly so that you can enjoy movement!

Happy Remember you deserve to move pain free and leak free!
