Without sufficient income, is it's difficult to live a healthy lifestyle??

The skyrocketing costs of nutritious foods, quality health care and quality of life are consistent themes in today's society, which should have sent every one packing the polls.

With that said, many people are still having a very tough time out there, and if we think that preventive care, such as daily exercise, healthy eating and maintenance doctor visits, is expensive, then let's consider the cost of doing nothing, or worse, of disability or disease.

Undoubtedly, eating healthfully can be a chore. It calls for planning and preparation, and can also pinch your pocketbook. But have you ever considered the true cost of a heart attack, which remains the number one cause of death for both men and women in the U.S.?

In addition to eating in a healthier way, we can all minimize or eliminate our risk of heart disease by reducing other risk factors such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, tobacco use and lack of exercise.
When it comes to improved health, exercise alone provides exponential benefits, including improved control of blood sugar, decreased blood pressure, increased HDL (good cholesterol), decreased triglycerides (fat) and a stronger heart. And that's just for starters.

One of the most important aspects of health is having strong social connections. Yet diets that are frequently prescribed, supposedly to improve health, lead to social isolation by making it challenging for you to be flexible and enjoy social events that involve food. In this post, learn how dieting affects your social life and harms your health, and why flexible, intuitive eating supports wellness and longevity. Society is shifting views and finally learning that diets don’t work. We know that dieting fails most of the time and dieting is a leading predictor of weight gain. But many people have trouble letting go of the diet mentality mindset, partly because they just don’t know what to think or do instead. It’s very hard to change behaviors and no one should feel ashamed if they need more support.

The very first step in intuitive eating is to reject the diet mentality. It’s one of my favorite principles! Here are 5 ideas to reject diet mentality:

Do something TODAY that you’ve been wanting to do. Don’t save that thing for when you change your body shape/size.
Think about your favorite foods and repeat over and over “there are no good or bad foods”. Make sure you eat at least one of those favorite meals or snacks this week.
Don’t weigh yourself today, all week, all month, or even all year! The scale does not define health.
Unfollow anyone that posts unrealistic, unhelpful “health” messages on social media. You do not need to get stuck in the comparison trap.
Realize you are so much more than your weight or your body shape/size. Brain scans have confirmed that intermittent sugar consumption affects the brain in ways similar to certain drugs. The study found that “intermittent access to sugar can lead to behavioral and neurochemical changes that resemble the effects of a substance of abuse.” Earlier this year, the American Heart Association cited research that shows. sugary soft drinks are responsible for 180,000 deaths worldwide each year. They recommend that adults consume no more than 450 calories per week from sugar-sweetened beverages. This translates to just under two 20-ounce bottles of Coca-Cola. Depression is a another risk factor for heart disease. Skipping breakfast in the morning is a big mistake if wanting to lose weight. Because when we skip a meal, our body goes into starvation mode. The number one excuse people give for not buying healthy food is that it’s expensive. After all, why wouldn’t you opt for more nutritious and higher quality food otherwise? For many people, Whole Foods, and similar health food stores, seem like a golf clubs that are only accessible to the wealthy. Over and over again, the public outcry is: why is healthy food so expensive? However, not only is healthy food not as expensive as you think, you are also asking the wrong question. When you ask “why is the price of healthy food so damn high?”, Instead, ask “why is the price of unhealthy food so damn cheap?”. Not only it isn’t cheap as it appears, it also harms your body in the long run. Sources of cheap calories such as white bread can be made with refined ingredients and contain harmful additives. They can rob your body of crucial nutrients and over time – harm your health. This will COST YOU MORE! Why the scale sucks? Because the reality is, your weight on the scale doesn’t give you enough information on whether you’re getting the results you’re looking for. Wether it’s building up on lean muscles, or decreasing body fat, or simply visceral fat (aka the “deep dangerous fat) reduction, your weight on the scale just doesn’t cut it. Because muscles weight heavier than fat, and fat doesn’t weigh much, and because a home scale doesn’t read your visceral fat. The truth is, in order for you to have permanent results, you need to build more lean muscles and decrease body fat. You may weight the same thinking you are not getting results, but you may very well be closer to your results more than you think. DID YOU KNOW? Protein takes the most energy to digest (20-30% of total calories in protein eaten go to digesting it). Next is carbohydrates (5-10%) and then fats (0-3%). Thus, if you eat 100 calories from protein, your body uses 20-30 of those calories to digest and absorb the protein. Thus, if you eat 100 calories from protein, your body uses 20-30 of those calories to digest and absorb the protein. You’d be left with a net 70-80 calories. Pure carbohydrate would leave you with a net 90-95 calories, and fat would give you a net 97-100 calories.
SO, “a calorie is a calorie” doesn’t hold up after all. You can lose weight eating processed junk food, BUT you could have eaten a lot more whole food (that had important nutrients) and lost the same amount of weight if not more! Processed food takes less energy to digest and absorb compared to whole foods, so 100 calories of processed food ends up being more net calories than 100 calories of whole food.
