How many do you have in your garden? Whats your favorite tea?

Have you caught the spring gardening bug? 🐞

While it’s tempting to grow alllll the herbs, it can also be fun and helpful to create a garden theme. Having a theme will help you narrow down your options to plants you know you’ll use and love. A theme that’s particularly dear to our hearts is the tea garden.

HERE ARE SOME OF OUR FAVORITE TEA GARDEN HERBS:

🍵 Lemon balm (Melissa officinalis) -supports digestion and sleep, nurtures the nervous system, and soothes nausea and fevers.

🍵 Nettle (Urtica dioica) - high in vitamins A and C and is a good source of quercetin, iron, magnesium, and potassium.

🍵 Tulsi (Ocimum tenuiflorum) - a mild adaptogen, meaning it can directly help the body “adapt” to physical, chemical, metabolic, and psychological stressors.

What are your favorites?

I love this idea - healthy and no sugar ketchup and the kiddos really do love it! Its perfect that it's fermented too! The Homesteading Family is simply wonderful! If you don't have a ferment already started - the sauerkraut ferment is the easiest to get started.

Ketchup is a staple in most homes. What if you could have healthier homemade fermented ketchup made from pantry ingredients? Here's how!

5 Benefits of Herbal Steam Inhalation for a Decongestant
1. Instant relief
2. Cleans and Drys Mucous Membranes
3. Easy, safe, and effective for all ages
4. Keeps respiratory passages clear to resist infections
5. Provides active antiviral, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties directly to the irritated tissues.

Essential oils can be used in place of dried herbs though the herbs provide a more potent and thus a more effective remedy. Fresh herbs are best when possible.
Excellent herbs to use for respiratory and sinus congestion are:
-Eucalyptus
-Hyssop
-Peppermint
-Lavender
-Thyme
-Rosemary
Directions: Add a few teaspoons of herb to a large bowl of hot water. Place your face over the water with a towel over your head and breathe deeply for 10 minutes. Be careful the steam is not too hot and transition slowly when you change from hot to cold air.

My son was playing in his friends backyard and he brought this home saying…Isn’t this the turkey tail mushroom?!! It’s a true blessing when you realize your children are listening and learning ❤️. This is very close to a true turkey tail mushroom with the coloring and spores on the back, but it is too rigid and hard, a true turkey tail is thin and flexible. Based on my mushroom hunting friends I believe this is a Trametes Gibbosa.

Don’t get rid of your leaves - pack them in your garden beds as they are a wonderful free mulch that God provides just before winter. Precisely when the plant roots need extra warmth. They also help fertilize the soil and keep it moist… plus - reduce w**ds that sprout in the spring!!

Don’t kill this w**d! Instead, replant it to a designated spot in your garden (being careful to dig up all of the roots and prevent them from breaking as the most potent medicinal property is in the ends of the root), then harvest it for highly nutritious food, herbal tea, and/or medicine. The entire plant from the roots to the flowers is edible, and after two years, the root can be harvested to make a strong herbal tincture or tea.
