Breathing techniques have a lot of benefits! And there are many different kinds of breathing techniques. By practicing certain techniques you may be able to reduce stress levels, lower heart rate, lower blood pressure, improve diabetic symptoms, reduce depression, better manage chronic pain, better regulate your body's reaction to stress and fatigue, and reduce the possibility of burnout for caregivers.
Here is a basic belly breathing technique:
1) Sit or lie flat in a comfortable position.
2) Put one hand on your belly just below your ribs and the other hand on your chest.
3) Take a deep breath in through your nose, and let your belly push your hand out. ...
3) Breathe out through pursed lips as if you were whistling. ...
4) Do this breathing 3 to 10 times.
