Hospice of Hope Volunteers

Hospice of Hope Volunteers Hospice of Hope volunteers come from all walks of life - they are homemakers, professionals, retirees, ANYONE! They make time to give of themselves to the help others.

Who is A Hospice of Hope Volunteer? Hospice of Hope Volunteers come from all walks of life- they are homemakers, business folks, retirees, employed full time, part-time or even self-employed. What does a Hospice Volunteer Do? They make time to give of themselves to help others. Provide support to ease loneliness, fear and grief of patients suffering from a terminal illness. Help families cope, answer phone calls, pick up groceries, plant flowers, say a prayer, walk the dog, offer moral support, hold a hand, read a book, write a letter, feed the cat, share memories, give a smile, deliver medicine, sing a song, cook a meal, take a patient to a doctor's appointment. How Do I become a Volunteer? If you are interested in Volunteering with Hospice of Hope, please call our office at 800-928-4848 or message us on Facebook. Volunteer Training is required and each candidate must attend an orientation.

Hospice of Hope volunteers certainly light up our world by helping us provide quality end of life care for our patients through various activities. We can not thank them enough for their countless hours of making phone calls, office work, baking, offering a listening ear, holding a hand, offering prayer, conducting events such as our “We Honor Veterans” program, singing, or sharing their gift of music to others. The opportunities are unlimited and we want to thank each of you who selfishly offer a helping hand. Your kindness does not go unnoticed! If you or someone you know would like to join our team of volunteers please reach out to our Volunteer Coordinator Melanie Strode; 606.759.4050

At Hospice of Hope, we are so appreciative of our volunteers who give countless hours! The work and the services they provide don’t go unnoticed. They truly hold the hands & hearts of everyone with whom they have contact.
We’re grateful for them, we praise them & we honor them... this week and every week!
Happy Volunteer Appreciation Week 2020. (We will get to celebrate, eventually, but for now, everyone stay safe & healthy!)

“Volunteers are the ONLY human beings on the face of the earth who reflect this nation’s compassion, unselfish caring, patience, and just plain loving one another.” -Erma Bombeck

COVID-19 update, we strive to keep our patients, volunteers & staff safe!

~Hospice of Hope and Hospice of Hope Ohio Valley’s Response to the COVID-19~

Hospice of Hope and Hospice of Hope Ohio Valley is committed to providing compassionate care to aging Kentuckians and Ohioans at end of life. Our priority right now is protecting those that we serve and our team members from exposure to the coronavirus (COVID-19). We know that our patient population is among those at risk to the effects of the illness, and we understand that our patients and families may have fears and concerns.

Here's what we have done in preparation for COVID-19 and continue to do to prevent the spread of infection at each of our offices and across our communities:

• We are strictly following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control, the Kentucky Department of Health, the Ohio Department of Health, and local government and health departments.
• With offices located in Kentucky and Ohio, we are monitoring daily changes in state level as well as federal expertise and recommendations.

• Our clinical and administrative teams are practicing exceptional hand hygiene and have increased our disinfecting process.
• We currently have hand hygiene supplies, disinfectant, and personal protective equipment supplies that we need.

• Our team is being monitored daily for illness so that individuals who may be ill are not coming to work.
• We are supporting employees who need time away from work due to illness. We are working one-on-one with such employees to allow time off without fear of losing their job or pay.

• We are adhering to changing clinical protocols at long-term care facilities and in patients' homes.
• We are engaged with our healthcare partners and are actively participating in their initiatives to reduce the risk of infection at their locations. In the homes we are working with patients and their families to ensure that safety and infection control practices are maintained as well.

• We are educating families in our Hospice care centers.
• Our Hospice care centers at the Adams County Hospital in Seaman, Ohio, and the Hospice of Hope Care Center in Maysville, Kentucky, are advising families and providing supplies to practice exceptional hand hygiene and limiting interactions.

• We have suspended routine volunteer activities that involve patient care.
• Hospice of Hope and Hospice of Hope Ohio Valley is supported by volunteers who provide patient care support to families. We are limiting volunteer activities that directly involve patients to only those with urgent needs.

The CDC has provided excellent guidance on preventative measures for our older adults and at risk populations, which Hospice of Hope and Hospice of Hope Ohio Valley will follow and share with patients and families. We recommend all patients and families with questions or concerns follow the definitive sources for information nationally and locally for COVID-19 updates.

So many ways to be a “light” & add a little ☀️ in someone’s day!! 💙🤗

We’re here to help everyone!
This is a small token of how we can pay respect and thank someone for all of the many years of service and work they have dedicated to helping others. We thank you. We appreciate you.
#hospicehelpseveryone

As you may or may not know, each Veteran entering our hospice program receives a special recognition ceremony & “pin” honoring them for their service.

In addition, we also pay special tribute to our first responders. Mr. Evans worked as a fire & policeman. We are thankful for his service to the community.

We recognize & pin a variety of careers & services. We believe it’s important to honor & serve those who have served us.
