Today, we’d like to recognize Heather, Account Liaison in Canton!

Heather grew up in the Northeast and graduated from the University of Southern Maine. She later relocated to Florida and now lives in the beautiful mountains of Blue Ridge.

She spent the majority of her career in the mental health field where she advocated for patients and families suffering from debilitating, serious mental illnesses. During this time, she became a trusted partner to her accounts and helped many receive better treatments and improved quality of life.

It is because of the fulfillment she found in this role that Heather was inspired to pursue a path in hospice where she could bring that same compassion to the families she serves.

Thank you for all you do, Heather! We are proud to have you on our team!

Today, we’d like to recognize Tiffany, Clinical Manager in McDonough!

Tiffany has worked in hospice for over two years. Her favorite part of her job is working with families and allowing them the time and opportunity to car and be at the patient/family member’s side and helping them have a graceful, respectful death.

Three words she would use to describe hospice are: care, dignity, comfort

In her free time, Tiffany enjoys kayaking, spending time with her kids (twin boys in college and 12-year-old daughter), and sports. A fun fact about her is that she was a flight attendant for 12 years and was on a plane on 9/11/01 that had to be evacuated.

Her favorite quote is: “You can be bitter or better. It is a choice daily.”

Thank you for all you do, Tiffany! We are proud to have you on our team!

Today, we’d like to recognize Anand, Medical Director in Newnan!

Anand has worked in hospice for 1 ½ years. His favorite part of his job is taking care of precious patients and working with colleagues who are more like family.

Three words he would use to describe hospice are: hospice helps & heals

In his free time, Anand enjoys music, Netflix, traveling, and harassing his kids. A fun fact about him is that he enjoys community in his golf cart in PTS where he lives, but he doesn’t golf. He loved living in Alabama for a few years, as well as in New Jersey for a few years.

His favorite quote is: “The day power of love overrules the love of power; the world will know the peace.” -Gandhi

Thank you for all you do, Anand! We are proud to have you on our team!

As we remember former First Lady, Rosalynn Carter, we celebrate her life and contributions to our country.

She was a life-long champion of mental health, caregiving, rights for women, and more. Mrs. Carter knew the irreplaceable role caregivers have in our society, having founded the Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregivers. She is quoted by her family in saying, “There are only four kinds of people in this world: those who have been caregivers; those who are currently caregivers; those who will be caregivers; and those who will need caregivers.”

Her husband, former President Jimmy Carter, says, “Rosalynn was my equal partner in everything I ever accomplished. She gave me wise guidance and encouragement when I needed it. As long as Rosalynn was in the world, I always knew somebody loved and supported me.”

Today, our team joins the Carter family and the rest of the nation in mourning the loss and celebrating the life of this incredible woman.

Today, we’d like to recognize Brook, Executive Director in McDonough!

Brook has worked in hospice for 11 years.

She says, “Starting out as a hospice case manager years ago, I really enjoyed educating patients and families. It was very rewarding for me to see these people come onto services in complete panic and chaos and get to be a witness to their ‘light bulb moments.’ Now as a member of our leadership team, I receive that same satisfaction seeing those moments with my own team. To know that I have given patients, families, and staff the confidence and knowledge to provide quality care keeps me motivated to keep going, even on the hard days!”

Three words she would use to describe hospice are: holistic, dignified, comfort

In her free time during the summer, you will find Brook and her family out on the lake on their boat. She says, “Most of my free time is spent with my husband and our 4 kiddos. We are a LOUD bunch everywhere we go!”

A fun fact about her is that she could not live without pickles. She is also a huge true crime fan. If there is a true crime documentary on Netflix, she’s seen it!

Her favorite quote is: “You learn something out of everything, and you come to realize more than ever that we’re all here for a certain space of time, and then it’s going to be over, and you better make this count. -Nancy Reagan

Thank you for all you do, Brook! We are proud to have you on our team!

This Halloween (and always), hospice doesn’t have to be scary!

Oftentimes, family members are hesitant to accept the support of hospice because they are scared of ‘The H Word.’ We understand if you are scared, and we want you to know that we are here to help ease those fears in any way we can. Together, we can work through the fear of the H word.

10/09/2023

One very important aspect of hospice care is the need to understand a patient’s and their loved one’s beliefs about death and dying. Religion and culture play a huge role in these beliefs. For example, in the Anishinaabe culture, a spiritual leader will conduct end of life ceremonies that will help guide the dying person’s spirit from the physical world to the spirit world. It is our responsibility as your hospice provider to work with you to gain an understanding of these beliefs and how they may impact the type of care you envision for your loved one during their time on hospice.

What is a physician assistant’s role in hospice care?

Oftentimes, patients worry that once they start hospice services, they will no longer be able to see their primary care physician. This is simply not true. The hospice care team will work closely with your P*P to develop a plan of care that is specific to your individual needs. This remains true for all P*Ps, whether they are medical doctors, nurse practitioners, or physician assistants.

Today, we’d like to recognize Chaplain Erin!

Erin has worked in hospice for five years, and her favorite part is caring for her patients and their families. She also loves the teamwork that comes along with working at Sacred Journey.

Three words she would use to describe hospice are: caring, helpful, calling

She says, “I believe spiritual care brings a comfort to our patients and their families during such a difficult time. Chaplains allow patients to express their concerns and heartaches without judgement. Chaplains, hopefully, bring a sense of God’s presence in the patient’s home.”

Thank you for all you do, Erin! We are so proud to have you on our team.
