This week we are celebrating "National Hospital Week". So it is time to pause and think about all the different people working in hospitals to keep us safe and well. The list is long and includes: physicians, physician assistants and nurses, lab techs, food service, laundry and environmental workers, bio med engineers, case management, aides and techs, volunteers, gift shop employees and security guards and administrative teams - I am sure I have forgotten someone. The theme this year is "A Week of Thanks". Please take time to thank a hospital employee - they are truly on the front lines.

05/06/2020

Today we celebrate National Nurses Day! It is also the kickoff for National Nurses Week which ends May 12 each year - . May 12 being the birthday of Florence Nightingale. Ms. Nightingale founded modern nursing at the end of the 19th century. It was because of Florence Nightingale that hand washing and solid hygiene practices during the Crimean War helped reduce the death rate from 42% to 2%. Thank you nurses everywhere for the amazing work you do and your caring spirit. Thank a Nurse today!!!!.

Yes - today is May 5th and there are several "days" to celebrate.
First, of course, we celebrate Cinco de Mayo. This day was first celebrated in 1862 in California following the Battle of Puebla.
It is also a day to honor our teachers as it is National Teachers Day! We all know the amazing work they do for our students every day!
And for more fun, it is also National Hoagie Day. Who knew?

04/22/2020

Wow! 50th anniversary of Earth Day. Junior Senator Ga***rd Nelson, from Wisconsin, proposed celebration of Earth Day after witnessing massive oil spills in Santa Barbara, California in 1969. The first Earth Day was celebrated in 1970 and is now celebrated all over the world. Think about how we can continue to protect the place we live.

03/30/2020

On this National Doctors’ Day,

I want to say thank you to all the truly amazing physicians I have had the honor to meet, work with, solve issues with, laugh with and learn from. I hope you will all remain safe and healthy – I stand and applaud all you do for patients every day!

Valentine’s Day is the Feast of Saint Valentine and while it started as a Western Christian feast day honoring two early saints it is now celebrated as a day of romance and love in many parts of the world. On this day, in the US about 190 million cards are sent each year – and that does not take into consideration all the cards exchanged by school children. The first mass produced Valentines in the US began around 1847 and were embossed paper lace. Esther Howland of Massachusetts began the business by bringing in paper lace and floral decorations from England. In 1868 Cadbury created Fancy Boxes – decorated heart=shaped boxes of chocolates – Yum!

Happy Valentine’s Day from Advanced Surgical Associates! Send a wish today to someone you love!

Hand washing – something so simple can make a difference and save lives. In this season of cold and flu, washing your hands is a simple act can help protect you and others. Working with surgeons – we know our surgeons wash their hands a lot. The art of washing hands for surgeons started in 1867 following the publication of an article written by Joseph Lister. Dr. Lister wrote about the use of carbolic acid to clean dressings, incisions and instruments. He also wrote that wearing clean gloves and washing his hands before and after a surgery kept new germs from being introduced to the surgical field. Before that time bed linen, lab coats and surgical tools were not washed after each use but only cleaned prior to being put away. So I image they reused their gloves and did not wash their hands often. I cannot image that today!

The CDC notes there are five steps to hand washing: Wet, Lather, Scrub, Rinse and Dry. Remember to use soap and water when you can and wash your hands for twenty seconds – or hum/sing Happy Birthday twice! If you do not have soap and running water – you can use sanitizers remembering that the hand sanitizers do not kill all germs. Stay well during this crazy season and remember to wash your hands!

Great Team!

Spreading some office Holiday Cheer

12/23/2019

The Holidays are upon us – all the preparation and rushing around will slow and time will be spent relaxing and visiting with family and friends. If family and friends are far away, cards and greetings whether by mail or text will be sent – wishing for peace and joy during this holiday season. It is a good time to reflect on the world and how we take part in what is going on around us.
On behalf of Advanced Surgical Associates, we wish you a wonderful holiday season. We hope you are able to pause and spend time with your family and friends and recharge your batteries. There will be much to do as we welcome 2020! So, no matter what holiday you celebrate – do so with much joy! Happy Holiday!

Happy Birthday Dr. Buckmire 🎂🎈🎉
My husband and I both go to Advanced Surgical associates. We have always liked the doctors and the surgical staff, but getting a return phone call from them is nearly impossible. I had a procedures on 6/12 and was expected to get pathology report within 2 weeks. When I didn't rec. a call with the results, I called on June 29 and left a message on Leona's voice mail. The following day, I left another voice mail. On Wednesday I rec. a call back from someone else saying that she wasn't sure and would look into it. She assured me she would call me back in the afternoon of 7/2. It is now 7/6 and I have left yet another voice mail. The follow through of the staff leaves alot to be desired.
Today is my five year anniversary of having my cancer spotted thyroid removed! Please say hello to Dr. Masur and Justine for me. I'm forever grateful.
I think we all could have a big fat party with advanced surgical before Christmas or after. We should all get together. I'm not good at planning. But it would be fun.
I just found out yesterday was World Plastic Surgeon day. Dr Testa and Angie have been amazing with my treatment over the last year and a half. I couldn’t have asked for better care and outcomes. Thank you both for your kindness, compassion and perfection!
Thank you to Dr. Thomas Taylor, with Advanced Surgical Associates, for presenting to FiftyForward Madison Station today. TriStar Skyline Medical Center hosts physicians at Fifty Forward throughout the year to educate our community on various healthcare topics. Dr. Taylor did a wonderful job talking about the advantages of robotic surgery, enhanced surgical recovery (ESR-anesthesia protocol) and the procedures performed at TriStar Skyline such as gallbladder surgery, colon cancer surgery, hernia repair, breast surgery and appendectomies. For more information on surgical procedures at TriStar Skyline, please visit TriStarSkyline.com/Services.
I am VERY disappointed in my experience with Dr Testa's office!! I had my consultation on 05/15 to have my breast implants removed (Breast Implant Illness), on 05/17 I sent his assistant, Angie, my insurance information of what they would cover and told her the MRI Dr Testa had ordered was scheduled for 05/28. Angie replied and said, "great, when we have the results, we will file with you insurance." On 05/28, I received a call from Nicole in their office and she stated that my insurance had denied the pre-authorization for surgery. Come to find out, they had sent in the pre-authorization on 05/17 with absolutely NO notes from my consultation and 11 days prior to the MRI appointment!!! I have numerous emails between Angie and myself and the past week (even though I have been trying to contact them) I have been ignored. I did get a couple different replies from Angie that stated "I'm working on things for other patients, I'll have to get back to you." Well, it's good to see the other patients are FAR more important than me as I got ZERO response!! My insurance stated that if Dr Testa called and did a peer to peer, they would reverse the denial... guess what didn't happen?! I am beyond disappointed, especially since my insurance would have covered my surgery had his office done the right thing!! I mean, this was their screw up by ordering the MRI and then NOT waiting for the results to send to my insurance AND not sending any of the consultation notes. I doesn't feel good to get the "cold shoulder" from a medical provider when you're sick and really need their services.
My friend Janet Leinan had an appointment today with Dr. Masur. The care in explaining to her what was going to happen next was the best I've ever seen from a Dr. Janet was so afraid to go to see another Dr., but Dr. Masur was perfect and put her at ease. If I ever need a specialist I'm going to see Dr. Masur THANK YOU
Four years ago today, Dr. Masur took the last of the cancer out of my neck! (Who needs that thyroid anyway?!) I almost wish I could still see the scars as a badge of honor. I'm forever grateful to Dr. Masur and Justine. They are simply the best!
Wow!I am beyond amazed that my Surgeon Dr. Reitz just called me to address and concerns I had about my upcoming surgery.I have anxiety and of course something like surgery worries me so that phone call was exactly what I needed. To have a surgeon willing to take time out of their day to call you just to make sure your worries are taken care of is absolutely unheard of.I feel much better and no I am in good hands.Thank you Dr. Reitz now I know why so many people reccomend you!
