Life is too short to not do things that light you up.

You didn’t come into this life to struggle, to suffer, to keep up with the Jones’. You didn’t come here to prove anything to anyone, to earn your worth, to fit in with the crowd or fulfill you “duties”.

You came here to live. to love. to feel joy. to have a human experience. to revel in the beauty of life and nature. to feel your feelings- the whole range of human emotion (pleasant and unpleasant).

So savor the everyday miracles. The taste of delicious food. The weight of your baby’s soft body as it rests on your chest. The embrace of your lover. The feeling of tiny hands holding yours. The warmth and comfort of a hug. The smell of the air after it rains. The comfort of your pillow at night. The sound of music you love. That first sip of coffee in the morning. Soak it all in.

And let yourself fall fully into the emotions at the other end of the scale- feel your sadness, your grief, your rage. Let yourself feel your feelings, name them and acknowledge them. Let them wash over you like a wave and then let them go back to the ocean. Surrender to the current with loving compassion for yourself, and know that this wave will pass.

Then, look for that spark of joy, and follow it. Like a lightening bug in the middle of the dark night.

The Fall equinox, the Harvest Moon, the sign of Libra is all about balance- the yin and the yang, the divine masculine and feminine. Your inner being is calling you into balance. Asking for rest. And more joy.

Just for today, do not be angry
Do not worry
Be filled with gratitude
Devote yourself to your work
Be kind to others, and to yourself

Life is too short to not do things that light you up.

😲 Did you know that there is a drug that 85% of us use every single day?

If you’re one of them, I have a little assignment for you. :) No, I am not going to ask you to quit.

It’s caffeine … and we use it to get going in the morning, power through workouts or work, and keep us going through the mid-afternoon slump.

The upside of caffeine?

● It gives you energy
● It boosts your alertness and ability to concentrate
● It can come in beverages filled with antioxidants that have health benefits (ex: tea!)

That’s all well and good ...

But there are a few downsides.

● It can take up to 10 hours to clear your system – which means it can also get in the way of relaxing – and falling and staying asleep.
● You can build up a tolerance after your body gets used to it, which means you might need to drink more of it to get the same effects.
● It can raise your blood pressure.
● It can make you “wired-tired”: jittery, overstimulated, and tired at the same time.
● It’s linked with migraines.
● It doesn’t mix well with some medications and health issues.
● Suddenly quitting caffeine can give you headaches and leave you feeling tired, achy, and even nauseous.

This leads me to that little assignment I mentioned earlier.

Today, take some time to ask yourself:

Are you using caffeine – or is it using you?

If you are feeling jittery and stressed, having a hard time sleeping, getting headaches, or finding that your tolerance for caffeine is increasing …

Or maybe you feel like you NEED it to keep going through the day – it might be time to reevaluate your caffeine use.

Our mission is to help women find true healing, happiness, and peace in their lives by taking a whole-woman approach to wellness, understanding and honoring the unique challenges and frustrations that women face, and walking with our clients as they implement their personalized action plan and create sustainable change in their lives.

Throughout my career in healthcare, I have always believed that it was not only the medications or therapies being delivered that helped people to heal, but that it was also the act of intentionally caring for people with love and kindness. Like many professionals in the field, I fell into Functional Medicine and Integrative Nutrition through my own personal health journey and life challenges. While studying at Vanderbilt University to become a nurse practitioner, I started on a path to improve my own health. I pursued educational opportunities in integrative medicine, functional medicine, nutrition, and fitness. Once I began to view health and wellness from this functional, root cause perspective, there was no going back.

After the birth of my three children, I struggled with breastfeeding challenges, post-partum recovery, and autoimmune disease. I felt alone and isolated, without the “village” that I thought I was supposed to have. I realized that the conventional medical system did not have the answers and support I needed. From this experience, I made the decision to shift my career to Integrative and Functional Medicine so that I could fill the gap and meet these needs for other women. And so, Blissful Heart, PLLC was born.
