I recommend a recipe binder multiple times a week. Seriously. A good old-fashioned three-ring binder!! šŸ“’

And yes, I recognize the irony. I’m a recipe content creator with an entire app full of recipes!

But here’s the thing. When it’s time to meal plan or get dinner on the table, the last thing you need is to remember where you saved that recipe.

Was it Pinterest? Instagram? A screenshot? A website you can’t remember?

It’s exhausting before you’ve even started cooking.

I’m all for finding new recipes online! But when you try one and your family loves it? PRINT IT. Put it in a binder.

Then, when it’s time to make your grocery list and plan another week of meals, pull out your binder. Flip through your favorites. Pick a few. Move on with your day.

The scroll is for discovering new recipes. The binder is your database of proven winners.

Less searching. Less decision fatigue. More dinners you already know your family will eat.

Tell me, do you have a recipe binder or are your favorite recipes scattered across 17 different places? šŸ˜‚

Soup season. I've been dreaming of it. And this turkey meatball soup is savory, filling, and easy to make in the Instant Pot or Crockpot. A cozy dinner that fits after gastric sleeve or bypass, too.

Pro tip for post-ops: sip the broth first then move to the meat and veggies with a fork to keep liquids separate from solids.

I’m excited to join the HCA Florida Trinity Bariatric Support Group today as a guest speaker!

Our topic is ā€œWhen Hunger and Emotions Collide,ā€ and the timing couldn’t be better.

As we head into the holiday season, schedules get busier, stress can increase, and emotions can run high. It’s an important time to recognize how our physical hunger, emotional needs, and eating behaviors intersect.

I’m looking forward to helping patients better understand these connections and explore practical strategies for navigating them with more awareness and confidence.

Grateful for the opportunity to support bariatric patients and connect with this community!

FNCE 2026, here I come! šŸŽ‰

I’m so excited to head to San Antonio next weekend!

I can’t wait to reconnect with my dietitian besties, make some new friends, hear what everyone is up to, and soak up the latest in evidence-based nutrition.

And let’s be real…I’m also pretty excited about sampling all the fun and innovative products in the expo hall! šŸ˜‹

But what I’m MOST excited about? Recruiting new advocates who are passionate about expanding access to medical nutrition therapy! šŸ’Ŗ

And I absolutely cannot wait to hear Jessica Knurick, PhD, RDN inspire us to bring credible nutrition education into a world filled with misinformation.

So much to look forward to!

Who’s going?! I’d love to see you there! šŸ’œ

This weekend, I’m walking alongside my sister in memory of her best friend, who we lost in early 2025 to type 1 diabetes.

This cause is personal to me for more reasons than one. Over my 17 years as a dietitian, I’ve had the privilege of knowing and working with many people living with type 1 diabetes. One thing I’ve learned: this disease gives you no days off.

Every single day means thinking about blood sugar, pumps, meters, needles, food, activity, highs, lows and countless decisions most of us never have to make.

I’ve also watched diabetes research and technology make incredible strides during my career, which makes supporting continued research especially meaningful to me.

If you know someone living with type 1 diabetes, I’d love for you to consider giving even $1 in their honor. Yes, the money adds up and matters—but there’s also something powerful about simply stopping to say, ā€œI see how much this asks of you.ā€

I’ll be walking in memory of someone deeply loved, and in honor of every person who wakes up each day and does the work of living with type 1. ā¤ļø

I’m not anti-module. I’m anti-replacing individualized nutrition care with information delivery.

Modules can be incredibly helpful for teaching the basics. In fact, I’d love for patients to come into an appointment with some of that foundational education already completed.

Because then we can spend our time on the part that can’t be standardized.

Listening. Asking questions. Understanding barriers. Talking through what has and hasn’t worked before. Exploring someone’s relationship with food. Finding strategies that actually fit their life.

That’s the difference between nutrition education and nutrition counseling.

Technology—including AI—can make nutrition care better and more accessible. I’m all for that.

But let’s use it to support the relationship between patients and their healthcare providers, not replace it.

Information matters. But information alone isn’t care.

It’s time. If you haven’t tried it yet. You’re welcome. ā˜•ļøšŸŽƒ

I often say the bariatric surgery journey is a lot like the parenting journey.

You take the classes. You prepare. You get the house ready. You think you know what’s coming.

And then it actually happens. šŸ˜‚

The ā€œnewborn phaseā€ is demanding. Everything feels new. You’re thinking about food, protein, fluids, vitamins, your changing body…and wondering, ā€œWill this ever just feel normal?ā€

Eventually, it does.

You find your rhythm. You gain confidence. And some of the fun parts get even more fun.

But then you realize something:

It’s still hard.

It’s just a different kind of hard.

You fall into rhythms you don’t necessarily want to be in. Old habits creep back. Life gets busy. Your needs change. And suddenly you’re figuring out a new stage you didn’t quite prepare for.

Kind of like parenting.

Apparently my current parenting stage involves helping hot glue pieces onto a homemade cardboard Mandalorian helmet. šŸ˜‚

The goal was never to reach a point where everything becomes effortless.

We keep learning. We adjust. We get support when we need it. And we figure out the season we’re in now—not the one we were in three years ago.

So I’m curious: what phase of your bariatric journey are you in right now?

The newborn phase?
Finding your rhythm?
Having fun and feeling confident?
Or realizing the hard has simply changed?
