Givers are those who keep giving, keep showing up, keep being understanding, and keep being the strong one for others. If you are a giver, then you will understand that at some point in life you will find yourself running on fumes and almost empty. This happens to givers because we forget that we need to be poured into too. We show up, check in, help, and listen to others but when it comes time for us to receive, there is utter silence. Maybe it is time to do some deeper inspection. First step, get honest. Givers can feel overwhelmed, overly responsible for others, and just a plain dry cup. Admit that you have hit empty on your giving gas tank. Second step, evaluate relationships balance. If others only connect when you are the one giving, then there is not balance. Start determining how much is your limit to pour into these types of unbalanced relationships. Last, look for those who pour back. If someone takes the time to ask how you are doing and truly takes the time to listen to you, this is a pour back person. If pouring into others is costing you too much of yourself then limit and pivot to find those who offer mutual care. Givers are not unlimited fountains for others to drink from.
