Tip of the week:
Even though we are getting into cold weather, don't take fleas for granted. We are currently enduring one of the worst flea seasons I have seen in many years. People that don't even have pets are finding fleas in their homes.
The most important thing to keep in mind when trying to eliminate fleas from your pets is this - Fleas don't live on the pet. They hop on and feed and then hop off into the pets environment. Then a new shift of fleas hop on. If you find even one flea on your pet, there are many, many more in the pets environment. That can be your house, carpet, bedding, sofa, yard and just about anywhere else.
Talk to your vet about using quality products for flea control. Don't waste your money on flea collars. They just don't work. Monthly flea treatments year round are the best way to prevent a problem from getting out of hand.
Once the weather gets cold and stays cold, the fleas outdoors are dormant. At least then re-infestation from outdoors is not a problem, unless mother nature gives us a winter day above 40°.
If anyone has questions about flea control, call our office and I'll be glad to answer your questions.
Good luck,
