Light is a drug and you're dosing yourself wrong
You have cells in your retina that have nothing to do with vision.
They contain a pigment called melanopsin, and their entire job is reporting light conditions to the master clock in your hypothalamus.
They're most responsive to blue wavelengths — the exact range your phone, your laptop, and your kitchen lights put out.
Two consequences.
1. Morning light sets the timer.
Bright light early in the day anchors your clock and helps determine when melatonin releases that night, roughly fourteen to sixteen hours later.
Most women get up, stay indoors, and never send that signal.
2. Evening light delays it.
Bright light at 10 p.m. tells your hypothalamus the day isn't over, and melatonin release shifts later.
One step tomorrow: ten minutes of outdoor light within an hour of waking.
Free, and it's the single highest-leverage thing on this list.
