We are so thankful to Hashem to welcome our baby boy!

Born at home on Thursday @1:01 AM at 42+1 weeks in a two hour intense birth, with my midwife who showed up just at those most difficult moments to help get me through.

This pregnancy was unusual for me and felt hard and heavy and I’m so grateful to be on the other side.

This is our first baby born in Israel and it feels very special, may we see the Bet Hamikdash rebuilt in his days!

One of our goals is to equalize food for kids.

This way they don’t feel pressure to eat certain foods. If they feel pushed they push back.

When we only offer or agree to play with foods when we want our children to try those foods or eat more of them, we are creating a food imbalance.

And that often creates a sense of pressure.

By offering or agreeing to play with foods our child already eats, we keep all foods in the same category, and that encourages children to explore food and quantities more equally.

Does it feel like a lot of effort to incorporate play with food?

What are your concerns around this?

What has your experience been?

If you are looking for more support around food and mealtimes for your kids, reach out for a free 15 minute consultation to hear about working together. I’ll be starting to work with clients again in about a month.

A mom reached out for a friend.

Her child’s overeating was taking over her life.

The quantities of food. The constant seeking food. The stuffing.

And it’s not the first time I’ve worked with kids like this.

The kids who will eat anything none stop.

So here’s a few suggestions that may help in a general sense. This is a multifaceted struggle that will usually require individual support.

1. Mealtime schedules: the child needs opportunity to learn hunger and fullness cues

2. Eating slowly. The more chewing, the more saliva, the more enzymes, the more digestion the more fullness hormones.

3. High fat foods ( good fats!) create fullness and lasting satiation.

4. Serve small portions and even small utensils to promote slower eating.

5. Explain mealtime schedules and portion sizes in a way that reassures the child that a meal or snack is coming up and that they will be able to eat as much as they need as long as food is available.

I invite you to join me on the journey of feeding solids to littles. This workshop is geared towards both new mothers and those with vast experience. Each child is different and each feeding experience can be just as unique. Come learn how you can introduce solids in a pleasant, relaxed and fun way that benefits both mother and baby.

I’m Chaya Stern, mom of four food explorers and an OT with 10 years experience in many areas of child development. I coach parents through all feeding challenges so they can support their children and introduce more variety and nutrition into their diet.

The workshop runs for approximately one hour and includes time for Q&A.

The workshop cost is 500 shekels plus 50 shekels per hour of travel.

I’ve been licensed in NY and I’m currently licensed in Israel. I have 8+ years experience in Early intervention, school based OT and my specialty in feeding.

And most of what I learned, I learned outside of school. On the job. Through real life. From my clients. And I fee so honored to be the provider my clients are looking for. The provider I would want on my side.

I’ll share more from my clients’ perspective in another post and I’m checking the comments to hear from you!

What are your thoughts?

If you’ve switched to screen free was it a lot of effort on your part? What was most challenging? Have your kids learned to play independently or to be bored?

If you’ve found some middle ground what does that look like for you? Do you make exceptions? When?

Do your kids watch by mealtimes? How did that get started and how is it going?

Would love to hear your experiences.

How you ask makes a difference!

Asking kids if they want veggies opens the possibility they will say no.

Asking them which veggies they want, offers them a choice and increases their chance of choosing something.

Offering veggies that are ready on a plate is the best way to increase their chance chances of kids actually eating!

What’s your go to veggie to serve? What veggie do you wish your child would eat?
