Happy Mother's Day! Today we celebrate those who are mentors, aunts, godmothers, best friends, teachers, neighbors, caregivers, and more. Priyal Patel, Care Manager, and her mother, Nirupa Patel, Ward Clerk, have the unique opportunity to work alongside each other together at Mount Sinai Queens—and they enjoy and love every moment of it.

“Working in the same hospital as my mother feels like being part of a legacy. She's a legend in her own right, and I'm just trying to keep up! From setting standards of respect just with her name from 31 years of service at Mount Sinai Queens to nurturing me through the highs and lows, she's been my rock... Amidst the emotional rollercoaster of healthcare, having my mom by my side brings comfort and love. We laugh, we vent, and sometimes we even sneak in a quick lunch together. It's not just about the professional support; she's my best friend, and I'm grateful every day for the opportunity to make her proud. A lot of people wish they could work with their mother after witnessing our dynamic, and I am blessed to be able to live it. Plus, having her around means I never go hungry!”

Yesterday, our nurses had the opportunity to view the profoundly moving and inspiring film, Nurses Unseen. This film highlights Filipino nurses, whose talent, compassion, and commitment have impacted the American healthcare system, before, during, and after COVID-19 in many inspiring ways. Our very own, Marie “Ludi” Ramos-Victor, an RN in the PACU, beautifully narrated a substantial portion of this film, and shared her experiences openly with her colleagues.

After the viewing, there was a discussion about diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, and what resources we have to continue these important conversations moving forward. Thank you to all who attended and shared their experiences, thoughts, and ideas!

We are pleased to announce that Faces of Care is coming to Mount Sinai Queens.

Faces of Care, created in partnership with Seano Films, is a unique, deeply moving series of short videos featuring employees who work for the Mount Sinai Health System. Beginning at Mount Sinai Morningside and Mount Sinai West, we are thrilled to be the next hospital selected for this series.

Four individuals from Mount Sinai Queens will be featured: Mauricio Gonzalez, Emergency Department, Eugenie Lacoste, Transportation, Alyjah Luna, Supply Chain Management, and Dana Rainey, Spiritual Care.

Faces of Care highlights the lesser-known hospital jobs, each of which plays an essential role in delivering safe, high-quality, and compassionate care. Through these videos, you will get a glimpse into their day-to-day, how their role impacts patient care, and their “why,” which guides everything they do.

These stunning videos reveal the human behind the badge, showcasing each role’s extraordinary contributions to their colleagues, patients, and community. We are thrilled to share these stories with you.

Faces of Care at Mount Sinai Queens premieres Wednesday, May 15.
