How to celebrate National wiggle your toes day: Let your toes feel the grass or the sand on the beach. Dangle them in the water at the pool or let them feel the cool pebbles along a shoreline.

It only took me 9 months but I was finally able to form my PLLC for my psychotherapy practice. This grants me the opportunity to expand my practice and build a team of skilled and compassionate clinicians to help heal the world one person at a time. We are constantly in a state of discontent. Looking forward, and waiting for what’s next. “Destination happiness” is the term I use to describe this belief that our happiness depends solely on our next achievement, our next milestone. And it’s okay to be motivated to achieve more. The issue with this is that we tend to completely disregard our present moments. We overlook all of the beauty we currently have. This moment right now; you will never in your life have again. Be present. Be grateful. There is so much to appreciate in front of you right now!! 🌺🌸🌼🙂

Imagine waking up every morning and acknowledging all the incredible parts of this life that we simply take for granted. A world where we express gratitude for the warm cozy bed we had the opportunity to sleep in, the beautiful sun outside our windows; or even the clouds and rain that give us the opportunity to maybe stay inside and rest. Catch up on some good books or TV. Let’s look forward to the commute to work on the legs that we are so lucky to have still functioning, or the car we only appreciated the first week we purchased it. Imagine being mindful of how delicious that first cup of coffee or tea or juice is and acknowledging that our taste buds allow us this feeling of joy. Enter your workplace with a gratitude that you have a job, and a way to keep a roof over your head and meals on your table. Embrace your coworkers with warmth and love, as we know social connection is an integral part of our human experience. Maybe even share a smile with a stranger or say out loud “what a wonderful day”

I can imagine reading this there will be some eye rolls. “Well life ain’t that pretty for some of us” you will probably think. And I am sure you are right. This is hardly an attempt to invalidate your pain and struggles. But an attempt to shift your focus and DECIDE what your will give energy to. We truly underestimate the power of our minds and the fact that we get to decide on what we think about. What do we focus on? If we wake up every morning and think “ugh another day” with pessimism and doubt, we will most likely FEEL like crap. Remember your THOUGHTS CONTROL YOUR FEELINGS. There is a science that supports gratitude exercises and the neuroscience of creating neuroplasticity by CHANGING HOW YOU THINK.

You can create new neural pathways by doing this gratitude exercise and create a habit of being more optimistic about your world and ultimately being a happier person. This world has soooo many beautiful and amazing things for us. But you have to see them. Bring awareness to them and see how you feel.

Try it today. Tell me 3 things you are grateful for today.

If you’re younger self could see you now and the way in which you live your life, would they be proud?

Sometimes as adults we tend to disregard our own needs. We often give up on our dreams. We even degrade ourselves with limiting beliefs such as “I’m not good enough” or a subconscious belief that we don’t deserve any better.

But what about that little boy or girl within you? What if we thought about that inner child who had so much hope and curiosity for the world. Are you living in alignment with their needs and desires? If not, why not? Even at minimal, this inner child probably needs some tender love and care.

Do an inventory today. If your inner child is not proud of who you are today, what changes can you make? How can you live the life that you deserve ? 👧🏼👧🏻👧🏽👧🏿🧒🏼🧒🏾👶🏾👦🏽👦🏼

Healing yourself requires fully nurturing yourself and providing for yourself everything you weren’t provided or modeled as a child. For some this may be healthier eating and physical discipline, for others it may be softer compassion and loving acceptance of oneself. We must be with ourselves in a way that fosters healing and trust within ourselves. And please know and believe that you deserve this.

There is factual science to back up the practice of gratitude. Our human brains adapt to the habitual nature of our minds - meaning when we constantly THINK about negative things or where we are lacking, our brains basically produce the same neurotransmission=sadness, depression, anxiety. The good news is, our brains are malleable and with neuroplasticity, we can literally rewire our brains and create new neural pathways. The more we think about the things we are grateful for, the more long lasting serotonin (the happy brain chemical) we will release and the more habitual it will become. I’ve been doing it for so long, it has become natural and automatic for me.

Start small… I am sure you can easily come up with at least 5 things you are grateful for; even if life feels really difficult right now.
