My name is Nicole, and I am a certified health and wellness coach in Northern Virginia. I'm also a wife, mom, animal lover and breast cancer survivor. You’ve heard of Sober October? Well, I’ve decided to do Social Media Sober October, because (a) I am way too addicted, and (b) despite my best efforts to make the algorithm feed me arts & crafts and puppy videos, my feeds have become hijacked by AI and political rants. It’s just been raising my heart rate for all the wrong reasons. If you want to keep up on Wellness Feast news, go to the and subscribe to the newsletter. Otherwise I’ll see you in November ~ maybe ~ if I find myself with loads of extra hours in my day, I may not come back!

sounds and inspiration 🌱 Something called sacred bamboo and purple beautyberry has appeared out of nowhere in my yard. So lunch break is raindrops and clippings and doggie sneezes.

Wow, autumn 🍂 literally dropped this year! We were down south for several days touring colleges with our youngest. It was so hot, the temperature dropped more than 30° as we drove home! The long car ride gave me a chance to reflect on the change of seasons, which is one of my favorite things. Today marks the fall equinox, an opportunity to pause and reflect ~ on what is growing and what needs to be released, the balance of light and dark, gratitude for abundance, the bittersweet contrast of waning warm summer days and crisp fall evenings. I hope you’ll take just a few moments, more if you have them, to acknowledge and perhaps even celebrate that delicate balance ~ the precarious and precious moment that is NOW. I’m not gonna lie, it’s challenging for me. I can get very caught up in what’s changing, what needs to change, what still needs to be done. That’s when coffee, prayer, nature, animals, creativity, time with my girl (who’s growing up way too fast) and so many other little tools become critical for me. I hope you can grab one of YOUR ‘tools’ today, so you can pause to enjoy the gifts in the change in seasons.

I got some BIG NEWS today! I’m thrilled to share I’m now a National Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach. This additional certification represents many hours of education, study, examinations, mentoring and coaching. The NBHWC has been instrumental in the medical industry’s recognition of the value coaches bring to prevention, whole-person care and improved health outcomes. Moreover, it is actively working with healthcare and research partners, policy experts and key stakeholders to secure reimbursement and payment pathways for coaching. I am honored to be part of an organization that is not only helping set a high standard for the health and wellness coaching profession, but also advocating for greater access to resources that help individuals improve health outcomes, manage chronic conditions and adopt sustainable lifestyle habits. More details in the newsletter on Substack ( ). I’m incredibly grateful for this community, which played a key role in this achievement, and I am excited to continue serving you.

Yep, the Halloween candy is on the grocery shelves. Here is my number one tip for staying healthy as we head into the next few months. If you feel like having a treat, make an event of it. Put a serving on a plate, make some coffee or tea, go sit down, and enjoy every bite. It will totally satisfy you. And will be way more enjoyable than sitting at your desk doom-scrolling through your emails with one hand in a Costco-sized bag of fun size Twizzlers. I’ll be offering a virtual version of my Healthy Through The Holidays workshop later this month, details to come!

Today I was sharing something personal with the folks participating in the Growing Through Pain series. It was about the tools we use to regulate our response to stress, illness, grief, pain or big life changes. I’ve noticed over the years that sometimes I have to change up my tools. A particular practice might need some supplementation ~ for example, a stillness practice sometimes just isn’t enough. I joke with my friends and my husband that there are two painters in me. One that’s expressive and loose and willing to take risks, and another that is very precise and technical. But the truth is the precise, technical one is just a tool. It gives me something to do with my brain and hands when I’m feeling that busy kind of worried that refuses to be tamed with meditation. And while expressive painting can be great for that, sometimes it actually opens up a whole mess of emotions for me. So I tend to bounce back-and-forth. Perhaps they’ll meet up one day!
