NYGA's registered dietitian Tamara Duker Freuman, RD, was asked about common fiber mistakes. Freuman asks, are you prone to frequent or unpredictable bathroom breaks? And suggests if you do, that this type of "speeding" (Insoluble fiber) may be your worst enemy. Found often in such foods as whole wheat, corn bran, leafy vegetables, broccoli, and tomatoes, insoluble fiber helps trigger bowel movements. Freuman advises patients with diarrhea to eat more soluble fiber instead.
