Small Miracles in the Therapeutic Practice
I believe Gd is one and that everything is unified. To reveal that hidden reality, we must rectify our limited ego and elevate our consciousness to a higher ego, the ego that includes all else. This is unity with the world and its Creator.
Some people are higher up on the ladder of doing this than others and often they are found in the most simple places. The Baal Shem Tov came into this world, for at least this one thing, to teach the idea that a scholar without the quality of including others (humility) is lacking.
Moses was called the most humble man that walked the Earth and he was also the greatest prophet. Humility is not just a really nice attribute; it’s the most useful one in connecting to heaven, or our true ego. It's through humility that we open ourselves up to insight, which helps reap benefit quickly in our study and practice to become truly skilled. Insight can be through experience, or often not. With humility, the insight can come to us beyond our preparations.
When a therapist embodies humility, their office is a sacred space. The therapeutic process becomes much more than a conversation and small miracles, those dressed in nature, can happen. Though both technique and personal character virtues are used in tandem, a provider’s simple sincere intent with little technique can facilitate a greater emotional learning experience for the client than plentiful scientifically based methods. Humility is just as much an accomplishment, achievement, a credit, to the person, as learned technique. It is to the person’s credit to house such a powerful characteristic.
