Nothing gets my menopausal rage going like seeing vulnerable women being targeted and taken advantage of.

Menopause is a natural transition, and yes it can be s**te, but constantly chasing the goal of how your body used to be is an impossible dream.

We are aging, that means you need a different approach.
It means that the foundations of health that we spent so much time ignoring in our youth are now the most important part of your routine.

- Sleep
- a balanced diet
- movement
- community
- hormone therapy if it’s right for you

The boring s**t that doesn’t sell and that we don’t like to hear about because it means we actually have to do something and admit that our current habits are no longer supporting us.

So yes, let’s celebrate World Menopause Day and that it is now part of a growing awareness and conversation, while we also acknowledge that it’s a multi billion dollar growing category and that the grifters are everywhere.

Sometimes the biggest thing standing between you and the progress you want isn’t a lack of effort.

It may be that you’ve been trying so hard to do everything right that it’s difficult to see what might need changing.

Your mindset is one of the biggest tools you have in midlife. The way you think about your body, your progress and the possibility of change can influence how open you are to trying something new.

Unconscious biases, fixed expectations or the belief that your current approach should be working can make it harder to see other possibilities.

And that’s understandable. When you’ve been putting in the effort, the idea of changing direction can feel frustrating or discouraging. It can even feel as though someone is questioning how hard you’ve been trying.

But changing your approach doesn’t mean you’ve failed. Sometimes, a small and thoughtful adjustment can make a meaningful difference.

If you’re struggling to work out what needs to change, that’s where working with a professional can help. Having someone look at the bigger picture with you can make it easier to understand what may be getting in the way and identify changes that feel realistic and sustainable.

You don’t necessarily need to try harder.

You may simply need a different perspective.

Most of us are probably not inflamed, or at least not in the way social media would have you believe.

Inflammation has suddenly become the answer for almost everything in midlife but often there’s very little evidence to support that diagnosis.

I get it, when your body is changing so much and you don’t know why having an explanation feels reassuring, especially when that explanation comes with something you feel you can fix.
That’s why this type of marketing is so damn effective.
There is real science underneath some of these claims but the grift stretches that science to sell you a fix or cure.

The boring truth is that it’s nailing the basics that will do far more for your metabolic health than any quick fix you buy on the internet, so be wary of anyone diagnosing inflammation from a symptom list, and doubly cautious when they try to sell you a supplement, test or protocol to fix it.

As always, when in doubt follow the $$$$

The sorry state of health advice on social media means misinformation can travel faster than the evidence and sadly fear mongering sells and turbo charges the algorithm.

I KNOW it’s hard to be skeptical when you are desperate for help and not getting the support you need from your regular doctor, but that’s exactly why these promises sound so convincing.

This is where critical thinking is essential.

A white coat, Dr in a bio and a string of impressive looking credentials do not guarantee safe, good or reliable advice.

You HAVE to become your own advocate.

Check the credentials. Research the evidence. And always, always follow the money.

There’s nothing that pi**es me off more than predatory marketing.
And menopause has become a fu***ng gold mine for grifters selling women s**t that they don’t need; tests that tell you very little and expensive solutions to problems you probably don’t even have.

Life is hard enough right now without having to navigate your way through all this bo****ks.

So this menopause awareness month I’ll be posting a grift a day to help you spot the bulls**t and keep your hard earned cash in your pocket.

First grift tomorrow. Follow along

Buyer beware

There are health platforms whose entire business model is to let health coaches, fitness Studios, and other wellness businesses like myself add prescriptions, peptides, and injectable treatments.
One platform even advertises that a business could launch a branded site in as little as 48 hours offering peptides hormones and GLP 1s -
I set my own prices and keep the revenue.

This is horrifying. We’re not talking about protein powder here. We’re talking about prescription drugs, and injectable compounds many of which have limited human evidence and probably not FDA approved.

It’s so predatory, the pitch is always clever, focusing in on the things that you desperately want to improve but I find it hard to believe that any one of these companies has your best interest at heart.

You always need to follow the money.

Once you’ve seen it, you’ll start seeing it everywhere, especially in the menopause space.

The formula is depressingly familiar and very effective.

Take a kernel of legitimate science, strip away the nuance and the stretch it beyond what the evidence actually shows.
Make women worried that something is broken, deficient or needs fixing.

Then sell you the solution, that only they have.

And yes, some of the worst offenders have an MD or PhD after their name.

That doesn’t give them a free pass.

Two things can be true at once: someone can be highly qualified, provide genuinely useful information, and still make claims that go beyond the evidence when it suits their narrative.

Credentials don’t make a claim true. The evidence still has to support what’s being said.

And when someone repeatedly makes that leap, turns uncertainty into certainty, fear into urgency, and then upsells you a supplement or test or protocol that supposedly fixes it?

I don’t believe your best interests are at the centre of that transaction. Their bottom line is.

Keep your critical-thinking hat on. Follow the $$$

Menopause awareness is rising. Good.

But if the messaging is mostly crisis doom, and “everything is a symptom” then we’re not educating women.
We’re scaring them and exhausting them.

I reviewed a snapshot of articles and research purchased so far this year and the dominant tone leans negative.
And that’s the kicker because negativity is rocket fuel for fear-based marketing. When people feel anxious, they click more search more and buy more quick fixes.

Women deserve much more than noise, we deserve context, nuance, and evidence based guidance.

Save this for the days you feel overwhelmed by menopause noise, and tell me: has menopause messaging helped you feel more informed or just more on edge, or both?

This may be an unpopular opinion, but you do still have control over your body during menopause.

It’s harder, but it is definitely not impossible. Your habits are driving your results, not your hormones.

The hardest thing is unpicking decades of bad habits and unconscious biases.

If you can open your mind and start to truly believe in yourself, you are capable of anything.

I just wish it hadn’t take me until I was 50 to understand this.

If this resonated with you, send to a friend who needs to see it today 😘
