✨ A Breakthrough Worth Celebrating: Safer Blood Transfusions on the Horizon ✨

We are thrilled to share incredible news that brings hope to families like ours and so many others impacted by sickle cell disease: Safi BioTherapeutics has been awarded an NIH STTR grant to develop antigen-null red blood cells as a diagnostic tool for improving blood transfusion safety for alloimmunized patients.

For those living with sickle cell disease, chronic transfusions are often a vital part of care — but for patients who have developed alloantibodies, finding compatible blood becomes dangerously difficult. That’s our reality too.

My daughter, Tully, is hard to transfuse due to alloimmunization. This condition has not only added complexity to her care, but it has also prevented her from accessing curative therapies that could change the trajectory of her life.

So when we heard about this grant — and the collaborative effort between Safi BioTherapeutics and Dr. Stella Chou at CHOP — we were overwhelmed with emotion. This is more than research. It is a lifeline for Tully and so many other warriors like her who deserve a future with fewer limitations and more healing.

We are proud to uplift this groundbreaking work and committed to supporting it however we can.

To our community: Hope is rising, and this is just the beginning. Let’s continue to advocate, share, and celebrate every step forward in the fight against sickle cell disease.
