Nature's Pace Nature's Pace is for kids to explore wooded trails with the freedom to climb trees, build forts, smell wildflowers, and PLAY Welcome to the new Nature’s Pace!

Though no one could possibly fill Christine’s shoes, I’m so excited to see this program continue! A little about me: I grew up in Andover with woods in my backyard. My childhood best friend and I would spend hours exploring and making forts. I moved to North Andover in 2008. I have always had a passion for teaching and have been doing so for the past 19 years. Starting my career in Haverhill out of college, I then transferred to Boxford where I teach 5th grade for the past 11 years. Before having my own kids, Logan & Dylan, I spent summers helping run a summer rec program in Groveland. Working with kids has always been on the forefront of my career. Thank you for following and I can’t wait to continue this fantastic program!

Never-mind Fort Day for this group- they were more interested in hunting for salamanders! 🦎They found six! They made sure to not handle them too much and keep buckets filled with wet leaves and sticks and then released them. Then we ventured to the top of Weir Hill and made crafts out of rocks, sticks, acorns, and leaves. The pictures don’t do justice of the view of the foliage! 🍁 🍃🍂

🌧️ Braved the rain today- and glad we did since it was fort day! While moving logs we excitedly found a salamander 🦎. After everyone got a chance holding him, we put him back and continued to add to the forts with lots of teamwork. While exploring a little deeper into the woods we uncovered a huge bees nest and lots of downed trees. We noticed tree stumps had different shapes inside so made it a mission to see what we could envision in each stump we came across. One looked like dinosaur foot print or a maple leaf and another that could have been a cat head? What do you see? 🐱🍁🦖

Inspired by our snake hunt last week, we made “leaf snakes”. 🐍 🍁 Collected leaves and strung them on a string connected to a pinecone “head”. While exploring we found some puffball mushrooms. They produce large dust clouds of their spores… so we poked them with sticks. 🍄‍🟫 🍄 We also took in the beautiful view on Half Mile Hill!

This adventure turned into a snake hunt! 🐍 They named themselves “The Cobras” and were a snake hunting team on a mission! My favorite hikes are when the kids’ imaginations take charge and we follow their lead. Anything I had planned can be done another day. 💚

Fun Fall Fridays: We did a rainbow leaf hunt 🌈🍁🍃, attempted boats but it was too windy, collected shells for a project for next week, acorn whistles, found nuts that had fun shapes and smells, colored some rocks, caught lots of crickets, and rolled down hills! Lots to do in a short time 🎉
