!! 5 signs your pelvic floor symptoms may be related to stress !!!
Your pelvic floor doesnât work in isolation. When your body is under stress, you may develop tension and holding patterns throughout your entire body, including your pelvic floor.
Here are 5 signs I look for as a pelvic floor therapist:
1. Your jaw and upper traps are constantly tight
You clench your teeth, grind your jaw, or carry tension in your neck and shoulders without even realizing it. Your pelvic floor may also be holding onto tension.
2. You clench your glutes without realizing it
Whether youâre standing in line, working at your desk, or driving, you may be constantly squeezing your glutes. Your pelvic floor muscles can develop similar holding patterns.
3. You hold your breath throughout the day
Do you catch yourself holding your breath when concentrating, lifting something, or feeling overwhelmed? Your diaphragm and pelvic floor work together, and breath-holding can affect how they coordinate.
4. Your toes are constantly gripping the floor
You may notice your toes curling or gripping the ground when standing. This can be a sign of increased tension or a compensation pattern elsewhere in your body.
5. Your symptoms increase when stress increases
Your urinary urgency, pelvic pain, leaking, constipation, or painful in*******se may worsen during stressful periods. Stress can influence muscle tension, breathing, and your nervous systemâs response to symptoms.
the takeaway: Your pelvic floor symptoms may not be just a pelvic floor problem.
Sometimes, treatment needs to look beyond strengthening and address breathing mechanics, muscle tension, coordination, and stress management.
Your body is connected. Your treatment should be, too.
