There are still a few rooms in our house that haven't found their purpose.

A wall without a picture.
A corner without furniture.
A space that could become almost anything.

I've been surprised by how much I enjoy leaving some of it unfinished.

Moving has a way of making us look closely at what we carry. Some things still belong. Some things have served their purpose. Some things become meaningful all over again when we see them in a new place.

And then there is the space that remains.

I've been wondering what happens when we let that space stay open for a while.

Maybe it doesn't need an immediate answer.

Making Room is about the quiet space that follows release, and the possibility of letting it remain open long enough to discover what belongs there.

Making Room explores what happens after we let go, and the quiet space that follows. A reflection on creating room in our homes, lives, and minds without rushing to fill it.

An old experience can return with a surprising sense of certainty.

A few unanswered questions, a quiet phone, a familiar feeling, and suddenly the past starts filling in the blanks.

It can be helpful to pause there.

To notice what you remember.
To notice what you’re feeling.
To leave a little room for what you don’t know yet.

The present may have its own story to tell.

I’m curious, where might you be giving an old story the pen?

A quiet phone can tell a very loud story.

You’re waiting for an answer, and suddenly your mind starts filling in the blanks with old stories.

It can feel like certainty.

Maybe we can pause long enough to let the present speak for itself.

What story might you be filling in before you have the whole picture?

Sometimes the hardest part of waiting is the story our minds create in the silence.

A delayed answer.
A quiet phone.
A little uncertainty.

And suddenly, an old experience can start filling in the blanks.

The past can be incredibly convincing. It remembers what happened before, what hurt, what we learned, and what we promised ourselves we would watch for next time.

There’s wisdom in that history.

And there can also be space to let the present offer its own information.

Ashley writes about noticing that moment when an old story begins answering a question the present hasn’t finished asking.

Maybe there’s something here worth noticing in your own life, too.

The Present Deserves to Tell Its Own Story.

Explore how old experiences can shape the stories we tell about the present, and how creating space between the past and the present can help us move forward with greater clarity, trust, and self-awareness.

Sometimes something feels familiar, and our minds fill in the blanks with an old story.

I've been practicing staying curious in those moments.

What is actually happening here?
What belongs to the past, and what belongs to now?

Maybe something feels familiar for you, too.

Take a breath. Leave a little room for this moment to have its own story. ❤️

Two people can remember the same conversation differently.

You remember what was said.
They remember what they meant.

Somewhere in between, a story gets created.

What becomes possible when we stay curious about the space between those two experiences?
