⬇️ I’m encouraged to see more awareness and conversations like this beginning to happen. We need a deeper understanding of child development within our educational systems because how we understand development directly shapes the expectations we place on children. That understanding should guide educational standards, inform teaching practices, and create environments that support how children actually learn and develop. When we build expectations around developmental needs rather than expecting every child to fit the same mold, we create a stronger foundation for every child to thrive.
Knowing the expectation isn't the same as having the capacity to meet it. 📣📣
If you are a teacher or a parent, I am sure you've experienced a child who KNOWS what to do, but isn't able to do it. That's because knowing the expectation isn't the same as having the capacity to meet it.
Often times the missing piece isn't another reminder, consequence, or strategy.
It's development. ✅
It's co-regulation. ✅
It's connection. ✅
It's the nervous system. ✅
This is the shift at the heart of The Regulated Classroom®. We help educators understand what is happening underneath behavior, and bring simple, practical experiences of connection, movement, rhythm, play, and co-regulation into everyday classroom life. If you're ready to look at behavior through a different lens, come learn with us and follow along! Share with an educator friend who needs to hear this.
