I often say that the answers are within us.
But there's an important distinction:
𝗛𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝘀𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻 𝘂𝘀 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀𝗻'𝘁 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝘄𝗲 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗼 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗶𝘁.
For much of my life, when my body produced symptoms, I looked outside myself for something that would make those symptoms stop.
For me, medications often suppressed what I was experiencing—but I wasn't yet asking what my body might be communicating through those symptoms.
Today, I approach things differently.
Listening within doesn't mean rejecting outside help.
In fact, I believe it can help us 𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁.
When we become curious about what our bodies are communicating, we can begin asking different questions and finding practitioners, resources, and approaches that help us understand and work with what we're experiencing.
The answer within may not tell us exactly how to heal.
Sometimes it tells us 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁.
And then we can go outside ourselves to find the knowledge, expertise, and resources we don't yet have.
