Easton's Angels Donate Rocking Chairs To Special Care Nursery At HCMC
Paris, Tenn.- Easton’s Angels, a non-profit organization in Henry County dedicated to lending aid to families of children who have fallen victim to a life-altering illness, recently donated rocking chairs to our new Special Care Nursery at HCMC Women’s Center to help family members and babies have the ability to provide nurture and comfort when babies can’t go home yet from the hospital after birth.
“When mothers visit their babies in the nursery, they can hold them and rock them, increasing their bonding experience and, hopefully, their comfort,” said Rhonda Crossett, Director of HCMC Women’s Center. “We cannot create a home environment in the Special Care Nursery, but we want our families to fell at ease visiting their newborn. Thanks to Easton’s Angels and their donation of rocking chairs, we can do just that.” Rocking or using movement is one of the most common ways to get newborn babies to sleep. We naturally cuddle and rock babies when they are upset, plus babies are used to constant movement when inside the womb. Rocking is nurturing for a newborn, and when a newborn is born early, that nurturing is needed even more.
Brittney Cacciola Green, a native of Paris and a partner at HCMC Home Health & Hospice, founded Easton’s Angels after the loss of her son, Easton, after 130 days from a life altering illness. His life made such an impact on Green and her family that she wanted to establish a non-profit in his memory. Easton’s Angels is there to provide families with financial support by giving gas cards, restaurant vouchers, helping with medical expenses as well as by taking meals to the family. Many families have to travel back and forth to such places like LeBonheur or Vanderbilt and create financial stress along with emotional stress for the families.
Additionally, in the case of a death, the non-profit will assist with funeral expenses, flowers for the funeral, the headstone and even grief counseling for the family. Recently, Green was a speaker at the HCMC Little Black Dress Event in September and shared her story, helping to raise funds for bereavement kits for the HCMC Women’s Center for the loss of any newborn at HCMC. “We have been blessed by the community to help others in need, and for us that includes, the Special Care Nursery/ NICU at HCMC,” said Green. “This is the first place that these babies and families are brought to, so we want to continue providing items and pieces of equipment to make each family and child feel welcome and taken care of. We will strive to meet the needs of the nursery, so that every baby can receive the utmost care.”
