For my midlife, empty nesters and retired folks out there: when they ask “aren’t you gonna be bored in retirement” go ahead and remind them that working your job for however many years was never your purpose in life and you are not going to apologize for a much needed break and time to explore the world and find yourself!

To all my midlifers, empty nesters and retired friends: this isn’t just a new chapter. This season of your life can be an entirely new story. That story you were telling yourself for the past 25 years? You can set it down. You can write a new one. This is your chance to reimagine your life right now.

Retired folks! I need to see you at here getting fresh air and moving those limbs. Often I am the only one I see, my age, walking or hiking on trails. But I see so many grey haired people at Walmart or the grocery store! If you want longevity, health, or healing, you need to get outside and into nature and move your body. You don’t even have to move vigorously - you just need to move. I hope I’ll see you out on the trails!

Newly retired? Entering into the empty nest or midlife? When those nosey folks ask “what are you going to do now that you’re retired? Aren’t you going to be bored or feel sad that you no longer have a purpose?” You go right ahead and tell them that your purpose was never to work a 9-5 gig. Your purpose is so much greater. And will you be bored? No way. You are entering into your most exciting season yet - the world is your oyster! Don’t let their fears weigh you down. You go on girl!

Midlife mamas, retired lafies, women over 40 - do you relate to this? You text a friend or family member. You call them. They don’t respond. And you’re left wondering… why? Is it something I did? Are they just busy? Here’s the thing… if someone wants to respond, they will. Which suggests if they aren’t responding they just don’t care enough. So stop worrying your precious life away over people who aren’t giving you the courtesy and time of day. Invest that time into people who show up for you.

To all my midlife mamas, my retired ladies, and over 40 women in transition. Hear me on this: you do not need to wait for someone else to go with you, to sign up for that class, to try that new restaurant, to go see that new movie, to take that trip you’ve been dying to take. Liberate yourself! No more waiting. Go out and live your life!

For all my midlife ladies, empty nesters and retired gals: if you aren’t invited, if you aren’t asked to plan the party… it’s okay!! You are evolving. You are changing and growing. It’s possible those old spaces and faces aren’t for you anymore. That’s okay! Plan the parties and accept the invitations from the people who are going to fit into this new season of your life.

To all my retired friends out there: this season is a REAL transition. You are leaving old roles, and stepping into new ones. It’s possible because of this, the people in your life will see you differently. Maybe they don’t extend the invite anymore because you’re no longer a work colleague. Maybe you get NEW invites to things you were never able to attend. Whatever happens, take a deep breath. It’s going to be okay, you will adjust.

To all my empty nesters out there - I’ve been there! It is a lonely and strange season to navigate! The silence can feel overwhelming. But I promise you, YOU are good company, and YOU are what you’re looking for. Put forth the energy and effort to finding what you want and need during this new exciting chapter. It’s an opportunity to invest in yourself again!
