Diets can work great...until they stop working. Then what? In reality, healthy living and sustaining the healthiest version of yourself possible is a life skill...or set of skills...if you will. The key is to make healthy habits and behaviors a regular, enjoyable part of your life!
Learning how to include a variety of colorful fruits and vegetables in your day is one skill that you can start working on right here, right now! If you think your vegetable and fruit eating skills could use some improvement, try some of these simple practices over the next couple of weeks and see what you can do to get a little bit better. You've totally got this!

Question for you: Are you getting enough protein? How much is "enough?" You can start by looking at each meal and asking yourself, "Do I see at least one palm-sized portion of lean protein here?" See how that meal holds you. Notice how strong (or not) you feel in your exercise and workouts. Take note of your overall sense of wellbeing. If anything is off, add a little more protein to your meals and see what changes.

Are you your own worst enemy when it comes to getting the changes you want? Oftentimes, we don't stand a chance of reaching our goals, because our own mindset is armed and ready to knock us down on the first couple of tries. Then, sprinkle in a negative friend or some bad news on the radio, and it's no wonder any of us can accomplish anything.
But you have a lot more control than you might realize! Take a look and see if you have some "hard wired" thought and habit patterns that you need to give up. Give yourself a chance to see how liberating it can be when you get out of your own way.
Mindset is everything! Who you hang out with matters! What are you up to doing this week to do something about that?

Did you know that lack of sleep can cause you to overeat? Yikes! As humans, we are complex, living organisms, and when our bodies don't feel rested they send all sorts of signals to our brain to try to achieve homeostasis. Sometimes your nagging craving might just boil down to the need for a good night's sleep. 🤷

Practicing good sleep hygiene is another skill we teach in nutrition coaching that is simple to start and develop, and will pay off over time. Did you know that grinding yourself with a strict diet is actually not effective? Yep! There is loads of research-- not to mention my own professional experience coaching hundreds of people in health and weight loss-- that shows that strict dieting only works for a short time. Then what happens?
Answer: the typical dieter falls back into old patterns because they DIDN'T LEARN the SKILLS needed to make it sustainable.
Getting really good at eating lean sources of protein (this can be from plants and-or animals-- YOU get to decide) is one of the most important skills to learn if you want long lasting metabolic vitality and healthy, happy weight and body composition outcomes.

Life is busy and full of ambitions and distractions! We have been conditioned over the past century to prioritize "hard work and success" over everything else.

The powerful, basic life skills of making time for nutrition and self care fall by the wayside. The majority of our clients are looking to bring these skills back into their daily healthy living practices!
The good news is, it doesn't have to be hard...once you lock in some consistent, simple, healthy habits.

We recently worked with Atina, who just needed a fundamental healthy practice that she could easily turn to whenever she felt her busy life was distracting her from her healthy commitments.

You wouldn't believe how many times I hear a client say, "I don't eat bananas because they make you fat." 🤔 🙄 What?!?

In actuality, if you analyze the nutrition data of a banana, compared to say...blueberries, you will find that it really holds its nutritional weight (haha no pun intended.) It's a great source of energy, electrolytes, and resistant starch fiber-- a super neat fiber that can help sustain you better-- especially if your banana is slightly green! So it actually HELPS you burn unwanted fat! Woot!

Happy Monday! Are you ready for this week's "failures?" They're coming! We all hit snags and have little (and big) disappointments during our week. If you find that this trips you up too much, try reframing your mindset a bit. First, acknowledge that a 'failure' can only occur in the past. It is done and over with. You can choose what to do with it in the present time:
1) Obsess and beat yourself up (less helpful)
2) Let it go altogether (possibly helpful but missing an opportunity to learn)
3) Use it as a helpful 'data point' in your process to learn and improve.
Remember, YOU are the one in charge of your life and your day to day process (even though it doesn't always feel that way). So remember to advocate for yourself, and cheer yourself on when you're navigating the 'failures' of your day. You've totally got this!

Are you "all or nothing" when it comes to healthier eating or following a diet commitment? Well guess what? That approach is NOT EFFECTIVE. Based on research and observational data from my own nutrition coaching practice, NO ONE is able to sustain a strict "all or nothing" diet approach. What actually works is a sustainable, enjoyable approach that prioritizes whole nutrient dense foods, lean protein, fruits, vegetables, and the occasional not-so-healthy treat that is always going to be a part of life.
If you find yourself thinking you need to be super strict or to white-knucle your way to better health, there is a better way! Reach out to me if you're curious about how this works!

Getting the results that you want from your body comes down to developing the skills needed to get the job done, and making those skills stick! One skill that I believe is essential to good health is the ability to move your body the way it was designed to move. If you struggle to get regular movement in your life, try giving some of these tips a try. Small consistent actions lead to regular practice, which leads to the skills you need to make it permanent and experience the change you want!

It's time for a Monday mindset check-in! So, how are you? How is your mindset today? Are things looking doom and gloom, or more like happy trails? It's helpful to always keep in mind that you have a lot of control over how you feel and how you respond to life's curveballs, if you can just remember to keep that mindset in check.
Here is a little game you can play with your mind this week. Anytime you feel frustrated, and like giving up on something, try stepping back and just get super curious about what it is that's frustrating you. Take a look at what that thing says about you, and why it matters to you. Then, use your observations to turn the situation around and make it work.
Or, if you decide it actually just isn't worth it, then letting it go is totally okay! Life is to busy to be wasting time and personal bandwidth on stuff that really doesn't serve us. I'm sure if you take a minute to observe, you'll be able to tell the difference.
You've totally got this! Go out and rock this week out. Yeah!
