is a board certified ophthalmologist who then completed a fellowship in oculofacial plastic surgery. With this unique training, he is keenly aware of the impact our eyes and face have on our outward appearance and is particularly sensitive to the delicateness of this area. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery and is one of only a few hundred doctors in the United States who has qualified as fellow of the prestigious American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS). It takes years of specialized training to safely perform procedures on the delicate tissues around the eyes and face. To master the specialty, Dr. Stallman began with an internal medicine internship followed by three years of eye surgery training after completing medical school. He then became board certified and completed extensive advanced oculofacial plastic surgery training, qualifying oral and written examinations and a scientific thesis. All this was required before being considered by his peers for fellowship in ASOPRS. Dr. Stallman is one of the few plastic surgeons of his kind in the Santa Maria – San Luis Obispo area. He enjoys serving cosmetic plastic surgery patients from Santa Barbara and Arroyo Grande to Atascadero and Paso Robles. Upper eyelid Blepharoplasty is one of the most common procedures I perform. Its a minimally invasive procedure that can be performed in the office. Patients often comment that it is much easier than they had imagined.

Here's a nice example of improvements to the upper and lower lid achieved by hidden incision brow lifting combined with eyelid surgery. Lower lid surgery addressed both the under eye fat "bag" as well as the secondary fluid pouch (festoon).

Here's another example of results from lower eyelid blepharoplasty or "eye bag reduction". This is a procedure that is performed through a hidden approach on the inside of the eyelid, hiding any visible scaring. The fatty tissue which causes the cosmetic bulge and shadows is partially removed and partially redistributed. This results in a smoother lower lid and elimination of the dark shadows and "bag". This is one of the most common office outpatient procedures that I perform.

Sometimes patients come to see me with a specific request such as to fill the tear trough. They are often seeking something that becomes popular on social media. Here, I advised not to focus too much on the inner tear trough but to pay attention to the contours of the entire lower lid/cheek junction. Filler was carefully added to the depressions of those areas, creating a more youthful lid/cheek contour and softening the shadows.

This lady was treated with CO2 fractional laser resurfacing. This smoothed the surface texture and stimluated collagen. Following the laser, small amounts filler were added to her residual fine creases to yield this result 2 months after her initial treatment. This kind of result is why I particularly favor CO2 resurfacing for the right patient.

Dark circles or "bags" under the eyes are caused by protrusion or herniation of fatty tissue from the eye socket. This can be associated with loss of fat in the cheek and even loss of bony support in the region as well. The darkenss is usually a shadow cast into the valley below the fat bulge. Lower lid blepharoplasty can effectively improve this by accessing the fat from the inside surface of the lid and judiciously removing some and transposing some into the areas of hollows and valleys. Other simultaneous procedures such as lid tightening, skin laser or checmical peels can be performed adjunctively. Here, lower lid internal approach(transconjunctival approach) blepharoplasty was combined with laser resurfacing to achieve a nice aesthetic outcome while maintaining normal eyelid position and contours.

Laser resurfacing of the region around the mouth with a fractional CO2 laser is a fabulous way of improving skin texture and wrinkles. It removes surface sun damage and stimulates the growth of collagen. It is quite versatile in that light minimal downtime treatmetns can be performed as well as more aggressive treatments with greater downtime,. yielding results as pictured here

Fillers can be used to highlight one's own features without exaggerating them. Here is a picture taken immediately after injection of filler to the lips and corners of the mouth or marionette area. Better definition and effacement of the shadows at the corners of the mouth is achieved, decreasing the appearance of a downturned mouth.

Patients are commonly bothered by hollowing of the cheeks and feel that it disproportinately ages them. This gentleman was trreated with the filler Radiesse to provide a more youthful contour to the cheek and fill the area of volume loss. Sculptra, which is a different type of filler, could also have been used here but might take several sessions as it stimualtes the body to produce collagen and takes time to work.

Although the most definitive method of improving lower lids is usually considered surgery, shadows of the lower lid can be well camouflaged by the strategic and judicious placement of fillers. Here Restylane was injected into areas of volume loss, diminishing the appearance of dark circles and lower lid puffiness.

Upper lid surgery or blepharoplasty can be performed in a fashion that highlights the eyes and does not appear overdone. When doing these procedures, it is important to recognize the delicate nature of the this area and the significant impact it can have on one's appearance.

Here's a nice example of significant rejuvenation of the face by jowl and neck lifting combined with chemical peel. I often advocate that skin resurfacing procedures be performed in conjunction with surgical procedures so as to provide more thorough improvements. Don't overlook the skin!

Neck fullness is a common patient complaint. At times, fat removal combined with surgical lifting is required to achieve maximal improvement. Here, the patient had good skin and muscular tone, so liposuction alone was performed. This restored a nice angle to the neck. Kybella (an injected substance which degrades fat)injections could have been performed but this individual preferred what I would consider the more immediate and thorough result afforded by liposuction.

Strategically placed Botox relaxes muscles which pull brows down and softens the appearance of the frown area. Patient's expressions are otherwise left intact, creating a natural appearing effect. In this case, dermal filler was added to the vertical frown creases for additional improvement.

Optimal neck improvements can be achieved by directly tightening the tissues of the neck (platysma muscle) and the connective tissue of the lower face/jowl area. I find that isolated neck procedures can't quite get the level of improvement that I strive to attain for my patients. I like the significant changes in this example.

Facelifting - a procedure by which the lower third of the face and neck are repositioned, can be performed in a natural appearing fashion. Often, other elements must be addressed simultaneously so as to achieve optimal results. Here, facial laxity was treated via surgery while this person's sun damage was treated with laser resurfacing, enhancing the skin texture and coloration, thus further rejuvenating her appearance.
