How many people do you know that think they have some form of "ADD or Aspergers", or just get "Foggy in the Brain" and are forgetful of names and places or those who stumble or trip a lot. These are all subtle signs of a Brain Imbalance that affect health in ways that will totally surprise you. Patients who have unrecognized neurological symptoms due to an imbalance between their left and right br

ain hemispheres need help and medication isn't always the solution. Drugs treat the hemispheres equally, where as Brain Based Therapy can treat a specific area in the brain; effectively helping the patient recover from symptoms and conditions caused when the brain is imbalanced. These unique therapies when combined with proper fuel delivery (metabolism) allow patients to succeed in overcoming their blocks to optimal health. After a complete evaluation which often includes full labs and physical exam along with history to determine the actual cause of complaints Dr. Marquis will implement an equally comprehensive treatment plan. He will leave no stone unturned to assist his patients in their recovery.

Optimize your training by increasing cardiovascular health, mitochondrial function, and fat loss while training at a MODERATE intensity. Research has shown that exercising at Zone 2 may be a better option than maximal, all-out training. Zone 2 is only 60-70% of your Heart Rate Max. Some exercise options in Zone 2 Training include but are not limited to: walking, light jogging, rowing, swimming, dancing, and biking. If you’re a beginner, starting at 2 hours a week is plenty and then you can slowly work up to 3-4 hours a week. Consult your functional medicine practitioner to make sure training at this level is right for you.

Although some risk factors are inevitable to prevent (age and genetics), 3 factors can be modified to minimize the chances of dementia.
1. Alcohol Consumption. Excess alcohol intake has been seen to decrease the brain’s internal communication. It can also weaken the body’s ability to absorb thiamine which leads to short-term memory loss.
2. Air Pollution. A study found that 188,000 cases of dementia per year were linked to poor air quality caused by agriculture operations and wildfires.
3. Diabetes. In both Alzheimer’s and diabetes, neurons in the brain become resistant to insulin. This leads to an interruption of communication that may be a cause of dementia.
Talking with your functional medicine practitioner may give you a clearer idea of how you can make lifestyle changes to minimize the chances of dementia in the future.

Collagen - one of the most crucial proteins in the body. What does collagen impact?
1. Joints- Collagen cushions joints and allows full range of motion. If there is a loss of cartilage, it could lead to joint pain and decreased mobility.
2. Hair, Skin, and Nails - Collagen strengthens the integumentary system by supporting follicles, increasing hydration, and reducing breakage/brittleness.
3. Bone- Collagen maintains bone density and reduces the likelihood of fractures.
4. Digestive System- Collagen’s amino acids are essential for the function and integrity of your intestinal tract.
5. Muscles- Muscles use collagen in anabolic and recovery processes.
6. Heart- By supporting arterial elasticity and blood flow collagen is essential for cardiovascular health.
7. Wound Healing- The amino acids found in collagen promote faster healing processes, tissue repair, and regeneration.
8. Brain- Collagen may hold neuroprotective effects that support brain function and cognitive health.
9. Weight- Collagen protein may promote satiety and appetite control to aid weight management.
