Today, we recognize Columbus Day and Indigenous Peoples’ Day, an opportunity to reflect on history, honor diverse perspectives, and learn from the experiences that shape our communities.

At WCOA, we are reminded every day that older adults carry a lifetime of stories, wisdom, and experiences that enrich our communities. The individuals and families we serve represent diverse backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives, each with a story worth hearing and valuing.đź’šđź’™

Every number tells a story. đź’šđź’™

A story of an older adult who found support when they needed it.
A caregiver who found someone to turn to.
A neighbor who found the resources they needed.
A senior who felt connected, seen and cared for.

In FY 2025, WCOA provided 12,496 services through programs designed to support older adults, caregivers and our community.

From preventive healthcare and caregiver support to social services and outreach, each service represents an opportunity to make a difference in someone’s life.

Because behind every number is a person.

Your generosity helps WCOA continue being there when older adults and caregivers need us most.

12,496 services.
Countless moments of support.
A community that cares.

Because seniors matter. đź’šđź’™ Give Today - https://wl.donorperfect.net/weblink/weblink.aspx?name=E363797&id=1

🌸 Orchid Giving Circle’s 2026 Grantee Celebration 🌸

What a joyful celebration of community and Asian culture at the Edith and Peter O’Donnell Jr. Athenaeum at the Crow Museum of Asian Art at The University of Texas at Dallas!

WCOA was honored to join fellow grantees for an evening filled with beautiful art, delicious food, mesmerizing music, and meaningful community connections.

Asian cultures have long honored the importance of seniors and caring for older adults with dignity, respect, and compassion. That shared value makes this partnership especially meaningful to us.

💚💙 We are honored to be a recipient of Orchid Giving Circle’s funding again this year and grateful for their continued investment in older adults and our community!

Last week, our Executive Director, Joy Pearce Hinkelman , found time to give back through the Plano Chamber of Commerce , Plano Works Leadership Foundation, Plano Independent School District and the PISD Education Foundation’s Principal for a Day program at Rasor Elementary.

Spending the day with students and educators was a powerful reminder that strong communities are built through connection, service and showing up for one another.

As an organization dedicated to serving older adults, we know how valuable every generation is to the strength of our community. There is always more to learn, share and contribute.

And in a fun full circle moment, Joy wrapped up her day reading The Leaf Thief to a class of second graders. 🍂

The leaf may have been part of the story that day, but it is also part of ours. At WCOA, our leaf represents connection, growth and the many seasons of life. We believe every generation adds something meaningful to the community.

Thank you to Principal Earnhart, the Rasor team and Plano ISD for welcoming Joy and creating such a meaningful experience. đź’šđź’™

Older adults have a lot to say, a lot to share and a lifetime of experiences that deserve to be heard. Their voices matter! đź’šđź’™

WCOA was honored to partner with The Dallas Morning News for a September 30 listening session at the Sam Johnson Recreation Center, bringing residents age 50 and older together with reporters and editors to share their perspectives on issues impacting our community, including transportation, housing and development.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to share their experiences and ideas. And a special thank you to The Dallas Morning News for listening and helping make the voices and stories of older adults heard.

At WCOA, we believe Seniors Matter and their voices should be part of the conversation. đź’šđź’™

One of our Street Outreach Caseworkers, Sarah Jackson, recently attended the 2026 Texas Conference on Ending Homelessness, hosted by the Texas Homeless Network. đź’šđź’™

The conference offered valuable conversations and breakout sessions focused on housing, employment, coordinated care, community partnerships, and innovative approaches to street outreach. Sarah also had the opportunity to tour Project Row Houses and participate in a wellness session, “Brush Your Stress Away,” presented by Hug Me Ink.

As the need for services among older adults continues to grow, opportunities like this help WCOA strengthen our knowledge, partnerships, and approach to street outreach and supportive services.

Her top takeaways:

đź’š It takes a village. As providers, we need to work together and make sure we are not working in silos.

đź’šThere is not one solution. Every individual and every community is different, and our approach should reflect that.

đź’š Partnerships matter. Strong connections across organizations help us better serve the people who need us.

Thank you to the Texas Homeless Network for another impactful annual conference and for bringing providers together to learn, connect, and move this important work forward. đź’šđź’™

Sarah shared a quote that really captured the heart of the experience:

“Take a moment to see past the mask we all wear.” — Mejean Cline

We are proud to see our Executive Director, Joy Pearce Hinkelman, representing the Wellness Center for Older Adults as a member of Leadership North Texas Class 18! đź’šđź’™

Leadership North Texas brings together leaders from across the region to learn, connect, and explore the issues shaping our communities.

Through this experience, Joy is bringing the voices of older adults and caregivers to the conversation while building connections that can strengthen WCOA’s work.

At the Opening Retreat, Class 18 explored Texas’s changing demographics, regional collaboration, the arts, and the opportunities and challenges facing North Texas.

We are excited and grateful to be in the room, building connections and being part of conversations that move our community forward. We look forward to all the momentum ahead! đź’šđź’™

A big thank you to the PRSA Dallas Chapter and the North Texas Food Bank for hosting the 10th Annual Nonprofit Workshop, “Next Is Now: The Future of Nonprofit.” 💙💚

There was so much valuable information shared throughout the day, from fundraising and relationship building to communications, leadership, and navigating the challenges facing nonprofits today. It was a great opportunity to learn, connect, and have meaningful conversations about the future of nonprofit work.

A special thank you to the incredible panelists and moderators who shared their experience, insight, and perspective:

Hope Cottage | The Salvation Army of North Texas | YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas | RKD Group | Texas Realtors Association | The Dallas Foundation | Good Samaritans of Garland - "Good Sam" | The Dallas Morning News

We also enjoyed the opportunity to sit around the table and connect with fellow nonprofit and community leaders:

North Texas Food Bank | YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas | The Storehouse Community Center | Em Cubed | Project Mockingbird | Lionheart Children’s Academy | GraceToChange

We were especially grateful to have Heather Molsbee, WCOA’s Operations & Development Manager, represent WCOA alongside so many organizations and leaders working every day to strengthen our communities.
