Uniting Pet and Human Research for a Cure®

At Animal Cancer Foundation ("ACF") a 501(c)(3) organization, we are singularly focused on selecting the best early-stage comparative oncology research to improve cancer outcomes for people and pets. At ACF, we believe that comparative oncology is the most under-utilized and most promising research model to increase knowledge of cancer as a disease, allow development of basic science data that warrants additional investment from large funders, and catalyzes successful development of new therapies for both veterinary and human patients. We provide research grants to enable comparative oncologists to build scientific evidence, conduct robust clinical trials, and generate cancer genomic datasets to integrate into the human cancer drug development pipeline. We ensure through rigorous grant-funding parameters that ACF funded research is best-in-field early development that will be poised to attract government and industry funding and encourage open share of discovery with all researchers.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month! 💗

From wearing pink to participating in local events, there are so many ways to show support and help raise awareness.

At the Animal Cancer Foundation (ACF), we support research into naturally occurring cancers in pets, including canine mammary tumors, that may help advance our understanding of cancer in people, too.

One shared fight. More possibilities through research.

How are you showing your support this October?

Every pet has a personality all their own! 🐾💛

Some are little shadows who follow us everywhere. Others run the house, demand all the snacks, or never miss a chance to snuggle. 😂

Whether they're the boss of the household or your constant companion, it's those little quirks that make our pets so special and the moments we share with them so memorable.

Which personality sounds most like your pet? Swipe through and tell us in the comments! We'd love to hear about the funny habits and lovable quirks that make your furry family member one of a kind. 💛

A little good news for Jaxx! 💙🐾

If you’ve been following his story, you’ll remember that this four-year-old Golden Retriever’s cancer journey began when a small lump was discovered almost by accident during a dental procedure. A biopsy revealed a mast cell tumor, leading to surgery and a second procedure to remove additional tissue around the original tumor site.

Today, there’s good news: Jaxx’s tumor has been completely excised, and his prognosis is excellent.

One small area in the pathology findings remains inconclusive. To help clarify the results, the original sample is being sent to Michigan State University for comparison.

Jaxx is recovering at home, and while he’s getting back to his routine, his family knows that close monitoring will be important throughout his life. Because mast cell tumors can recur, they’re committed to staying vigilant and acting quickly if anything unusual appears.

We’re so happy to share this hopeful update and are wishing Jaxx continued healing. ❤️

Keep those paws crossed! Follow along as we continue sharing Jaxx’s journey.

Working toward more time together. 🐾

Anyone who has loved a pet knows that time together never feels like enough. It’s the morning walks. The car rides. The adventures. The quiet nights at home. The ordinary days that don’t seem particularly important until one day you realize they were some of the best ones.

For families facing a cancer diagnosis, the hope is simple: more of those days together.

This DAF Day, October 8, you can help make that hope part of the future. If you have a Donor-Advised Fund, consider recommending a grant to Animal Cancer Foundation. Your support helps advance comparative oncology research and discoveries that can lead to better outcomes for pets and people.

Because behind every research breakthrough is the possibility of something incredibly meaningful: more walks, more adventures, more memories and more time together. ❤️🐾

Pets often tolerate chemotherapy well, but there’s an important reason why. 🐾

Veterinary chemotherapy is approached differently from human chemotherapy. While treating the cancer is important, maintaining a pet’s quality of life is also a major priority.

Depending on the treatment, pets may still experience side effects such as appetite changes, vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, low blood cell counts and, occasionally, hair loss. However, veterinary chemotherapy protocols are designed to balance cancer treatment with minimizing those side effects, and many pets tolerate treatment well.

Every pet, cancer and treatment plan is different. If your pet is undergoing chemotherapy, your veterinary oncology team is the best source of information about what to expect and how side effects can be managed.

🍂 Hello, October!

A new season is a wonderful reminder to appreciate the little things: the walks, the companionship, the goofy moments, and the quiet ones that often become our favorite memories. 🐾

At Animal Cancer Foundation, those everyday moments are part of what makes our mission so meaningful. By advancing cancer research for pets and people, we’re working toward a future where more families have the opportunity to enjoy more of them.

Here’s to more walks, more laughs, more quiet moments, and more time together.
Wishing our entire ACF community a happy, healthy, and beautiful October. ❤️

💛🐾 Eight years of Ziggy.

This year, Ziggy reached another special milestone: turning 8! And after everything she has been through, this birthday feels especially meaningful.

After facing osteosarcoma, an amputation, and chemotherapy, Ziggy continues to thrive with her big smile, loving personality, and incredible spirit. Her story reminds us that cancer is only one part of a pet’s story. There are still birthdays to celebrate, memories to make, and countless moments to treasure.
This is what we mean when we say pets make life better.

At Animal Cancer Foundation, we support research that advances better ways to understand, diagnose, and treat cancer in pets and people, helping create more possibilities for the moments that matter.

Here’s to Ziggy, eight incredible years, and all the joy she continues to bring to those around her. 💛🐾 📷 Story & photo:
