If you've ever been curious about chakras but weren't quite sure what they actually were, you're not alone.

The word can sound mysterious, especially for someone who is new to yoga. Are chakras physical? Energetic? Symbolic? And what does it really mean when someone talks about “balancing” a chakra?

This new article offers a simple introduction to the traditional chakra system without requiring anyone to take a particular belief system on faith.

It explains where the chakras fit within yoga, why there are different chakra systems, and how they can be used as a framework for paying attention to the body, mind, emotions, and everyday life.

This is the beginning of a series exploring each chakra individually, starting with Muladhara, the root chakra.

Have you ever resisted a routine because it felt like one more thing telling you what you were supposed to do?

I get it.

A lot of us have spent most of our lives living by somebody else's schedule. School bells. Work schedules. Meetings. Appointments. Family responsibilities. It can be easy to hear the word "routine" and think, "Absolutely not. I need some freedom!"

But I've been thinking about routine a little differently.

Maybe the problem isn't having a rhythm. Maybe it's having a rhythm that feels imposed on us.

I actually like having certain things in my week that happen at predictable times. They give my week some shape. But I also deliberately leave some space open, because I want room for the unexpected.

That's where I landed on this idea: I want a container, not a cage.

And honestly, I think that has a lot to do with Dynamic Balance.

I wrote about it this week, along with a garden, a river, my own calendar, and why I think a little structure can actually give us more freedom.

When something doesn't feel right in our body, one of the first things we usually ask is, “What's wrong?”That makes sense. If something hurts, if we're tired, if we're not sleeping well, or if our digestion has changed, we want to know why. We want to know what is causing the problem and what we...

I've always been curious.I'm a reader. I have a degree in English, which probably has something to do with that. I like learning about things, following an interesting idea, and seeing where it leads.I also spent many years working with computer systems. That probably influenced me more than I reali...

I’m Doing Everything Right. Why Don’t I Feel Better?
What If Your Body Isn’t the Problem?

You eat better. You exercise. You try to get enough sleep. You take the supplements. You follow the advice.

So why don't you feel better?
Maybe you don't need another health rule.
Maybe you need to learn how to look at the bigger picture.

In this first Webinar Wednesday, we'll explore a different way of understanding health, one that looks at patterns, circumstances, individual differences, and the connections between the many parts of your life.

We'll begin with a simple question:
Instead of asking, “What's wrong with me?” what happens when we start asking, “What's happening?”

This is where Dynamic Balance begins.
