This is my 5th year working as part of the annual campaign for Haven House Services here in Raleigh. This organization is really important to me and does incredible work providing programs, resources, and a safe place to stay for youth in the Raleigh area. They are also one of the only organizations within a 500-mile radius of Raleigh providing these types of services for youth under the age of 18.

I’ve been so thankful for your support in the past, and I hope you’re able to continue supporting Haven House with me again this year. It really does mean a lot!

Realizing it’s Mental Health Awareness Month and honestly…

May kinda kicked my butt.

Spiritually.
Mentally.
Physically.

I feel like I’ve spent most of the month exhausted.

Some of it was disappointment.
Some of it was burnout.
Some of it was trying to process things that didn’t go the way I hoped they would.

And if I’m being really honest, I spent a lot of time trying to fix the feeling.

Trying to understand it.
Learn from it.
Turn it into a lesson.
Figure out how to get back to being “normal.”

But sometimes there isn’t anything to solve.

Sometimes you’re just sad.
Sometimes you’re tired.
Sometimes you’re disappointed.

And maybe mental health isn’t always about pushing through or finding the silver lining.

Maybe sometimes it’s just being honest about where you’re at.

I don’t have some profound ending for this post.

Just a reminder that if this month has felt heavy for you too, you’re probably not the only one.

Thoughts on trying to lose weight as someone who: doesn’t believe smaller automatically means better, doesn’t want to live on a diet, still wants to enjoy life, and is trying to do this in a way that’s actually healthy and sustainable

Honestly… it’s brought up way more thoughts about diet culture and my body than I expected.

So we’re gonna talk about it.

It’s hard to trust your body when the world keeps telling you to fix it.

I literally typed into ChatGPT, “talk me out of taking a GLP-1.”

Not because I don’t understand there can be benefits, but because the ads feel nonstop.

And sometimes I look at photos of myself and catch that thought… I exist in a bigger body than I wish I did.

The pressure is real.
The noise gets loud.
And it’s especially hard when you’re doing a lot of the “right” things working out, trying, caring about your health and you still don’t look like what’s constantly being sold to you.

But I keep coming back to this:
Decisions made from a dark place may feel urgent ….

When they are emotional. Reactive. Not necessarily what I truly want.

The truth is my body is stronger than it’s ever been — and I’m proud of that.

Just because it doesn’t fit a mold doesn’t make it less worthy.

This past week, there were a lot of things I didn’t want to do.
I kept trying to talk myself out of almost everything.

But I got up anyway.
I put the clothes on.
I went for the cold run, hit the gym, ate the fish.

Because I knew if I didn’t hold myself accountable—if I didn’t keep the promises I made to myself—I’d regret it.
I’d regret not deadlifting 260.
Not finding my rhythm on a 3-mile run.
Not remembering that I’m far more capable than I sometimes give myself credit for.
