What happens to your estate without a plan? The short answer: Missouri law decides for you.​

The long answer: When someone passes away without an estate plan, their estate goes through a process called intestate succession. This means that Missouri state law chooses who inherits what.​

The law sets the order of who receives your property, & it may not match what you may have wanted. Unmarried partners, stepchildren, close friends, and charities can be left out entirely.​

Additionally, your estate will likely go through probate. That process can take months, cost money, and become part of the public record.​

And - if you have minor children and haven't named a guardian, a court will decide who raises them.​

Grieving loved ones may be left to sort through paperwork, court dates, and tough decisions without clear direction from you.​

The good news? All of this can be avoided with a plan. A complete estate plan lets you decide who receives your assets, who cares for your children, and who makes decisions if you can't.​
