VCU School of Nursing Ranked as one of the nation's top 50 graduate nursing schools by U.S. News and World Report, the VCU School of Nursing offers world-class academic programs to educate nurses from entry-level practice through the doctorate.

A leader in nursing education, the VCU School of Nursing provides students with the knowledge and skills critical in today’s health care environment. VCU School of Nursing alum Dr. Kenneth White has assumed the presidency of the American Academy of Nursing! Congratulations!

Kenneth R. White, PhD, AGACNP, ACHPN, FACHE, FAAN, assumed the Presidency of the American Academy of Nursing following the 2021 Health Policy Conference. The first man elected President of the Academy, Dr. White is the Dean of the School of Nursing at MGH Institute of Health Professions in Boston, MA, the only academic affiliate of Mass General Brigham, New England’s largest health provider. Dr. White was inducted into the Academy in 2012 in recognition of his significant contributions and expertise in the fields of palliative care and healthcare leadership. Dr. White’s term as President of the Academy will continue through October 2023.

The Mindful Moms study is being funded by a $2.4 million, five-year grant from the National Institutes of Health and National Institute of Nursing Research. They are part of an interdisciplinary team of researchers that will play an integral role in the recently announced $470 million NIH Researching COVID to Enhance Recovery (RECOVER) Initiative to study the impact of Long COVID in infants, children, and adolescents. As part of this nationwide study, Dr. Salisbury and Dr. Kinser will lead one of three sites recruiting participants for the new Life-Course Examination of General Affect and Neurocognitive Changes Following COVID-19 Infection (LEGACI) study consortium. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs at VCU’s Center for Public Policy are co-sponsoring a virtual event on Aug. 26 to understand the state of health equity in Virginia, explore obstacles to fair and just health care and generate policy solutions that favor the health of all Virginians. The event, “A Virtual Colloquium Addressing Health Equity in Virginia: An Interdisciplinary and Intersectoral Strategy Dialogue," will take place from 8 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. and is free and open to the public with advance registration.

Keynote speakers include Janice Underwood, Ph.D., chief diversity officer for the Commonwealth of Virginia, discussing “Framing and Explaining the Journey to the Health Equity Movement” and Beth O’Connor, M.Ed., executive director of the Virginia Rural Health Association, discussing “Virginia’s Healthcare Landscape: Where You Live Matters.”
