✨ We’re heading into the last lap of 2020 … and while this year’s holiday might be different than last year, I already know things are bound to get a little hectic.

🎄Which is why I’m doing my absolute best to BUILD in some time to SLOW DOWN and ENJOY the season!

Here are some of the things I am planning to do:

-Spend time with daughters (pictured in their Christmas gear below!)
-Drive to see Christmas lights
-Take some time off to unplug
-Bundle up and spend some time outdoors

📺 And while I’m enjoying those things, that is ALL I plan to do! No phone, no distractions!

October Client of the Month results are IN, and Karen is our pick!!! 🎉

Karen has now lost over 25 pounds since she has begun.

She was an avid hiker before knee and ankle pain had taken too much of a toll and she had to take a hiatus from it.

After gaining this weight, she knew it was time to make a change and had come to us where we were able to work around her knee and ankle pain and get her a solid nutrition plan set up.

Since then, she is now able to walk up and down stairs without noticing her ankles or knees, she is able to do hikes again briskly, and she’s feeling better than ever.

I learned a lot about weight loss and achieving fitness goals at an early age.

In High School I joined the Track and Field team. It was a struggle for me to find my way in the sport.

I decided that my event would be the 2 mile run.

I always realized that whenever I ran the 2 miler, It was always a challenge for me to focus on the whole race.

Running 2 miles on a 16 lap indoor track as fast as I could was just too much for me to think about.

My whole running career changed when I made the decision to break up the run into small and manageable pieces rather than big chunks.

So instead of running 2 miles, I broke up the races into quarters.

If I could hit the time I needed in the first quarter, I was in good shape. If I missed the first part, I wasn’t out of the game.

I could still make it up on the 2nd part and be in striking distance of the win.

Weight loss works in the very same way. If you have to lose 20 lbs just focus on the first 5 pounds. After you get that win, focus on the next 5lbs.

Once you do that you are already halfway there.

Now all you have to do is be present in the moment, give today what you got, and watch the weight melt off.

You don’t have to bite the whole apple at once. Matter of fact, you shouldn’t bite it all at once.

That is why most people choke around New Year’s time when they approach weight loss. It’s because they try to lose it all in one shot.

When you own the process of your weight loss, and approach it in bites, you lose weight faster, it’s more fun, and the weight loss stays longer.

Have you heard of the 5-second rule?

(No, I am not talking about the 5-second rule for food dropped on the floor. :-)

Call it whatever you want – your motivation, drive, or discipline – but this rule can be a total game-changer in that department.

Yes, it’s true: your success can come down to as little as 5 seconds, according to author Mel Robbins, who wrote an entire book about it!

Here’s how the rule works. The moment you get a “spark” to do something that will help you move closer towards your goals – you count 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 … and then you DO IT!

That brief countdown is the amount of time it can take for your brain to kill your best motivations.

There’s a part of your brain that HATES change – it likes to stay in its little comfort zone (even if you no longer find that zone very comfy).

But if you are able to TAKE ACTION before it can stop you, you WIN!

As an example: Let’s say you are about to sit on the couch to watch TV, and you have a goal of being more active. You suddenly think, “It’s nice out. I should go for a walk.”

If you say 5-4-3-2-1- and right away put on those sneakers to go for a walk, your brain won’t have time to respond with, “Nah, I’m feeling tired - I think I’ll just veg out here instead.”

Makes sense, right?

It’s basically the same as Nike’s tagline: Just Do It. It gets you out of your head and spurs you into ACTION.

Which is perfect, because that’s where the change happens!

Try it for yourself. The best part is, over time it builds on itself as you start to see firsthand how well it works.

Many of you know, that my Wife Danay gave birth to our 2nd daughter Savannah a few days ago. Savannah is right up there with Danay and Talia as the absolute best things that has ever happened to me. Before Savannah was born, Danay had a morning appointment with the Doctor on Wednesday. Danay wasn’t doing too good. I asked her if she was okay, and her response was, “Baby, I’m fine. Go back to work.” Normally I wouldn’t think twice about it and take her advice, but I just couldn’t do it that day. I told her that I was leaving work for the rest of the day and that I would follow her home. Turns out that we get home and after hanging out for 30 minutes, her water broke!!! Without telling you the full story, which I’ll save for another time, the moment and time when it is so easy to panic as we drove down the shoulder of I-75 to get Danay to Northside Hospital, it became clearer than ever before where my priorities should be. For so many of us, the Big Circle reflects Work. We put the most important things like Faith & Family +Friends in a small circle to feed our work (with Fitness being crossed out all together). What we really should aim for is Faith, Family and Fitness to be the big circle, for work to be the small circle and for all of these things to feed each other so that we can be the healthiest and happiest version of ourselves. If you already have your priorities in line, God Bless you. If you are like me and constantly need to re calibrate and adjust the priorities, allow this to be a reminder as to what the big picture could be. Hope it helps you.
