Raced IRONMAN California? Day 2–3 is when soreness peaks. Here's the recovery week our athletes follow:
Mon: easy swim
Tue: optional easy bike or power walk
Wed: optional easy swim
Thu: 30–45 min power walk
Fri: off
Sat: 1 hour easy bike
Sun: easy power walk
No running for a week. You'll feel better by the weekend, but full recovery takes close to 4 weeks. Keep moving, keep it easy.

SHE HAD AN IRON WILL LONG BEFORE SHE BECAME AN IRONMAN! πŸ’ͺπŸ”₯

When Multisport Endurance Academy athlete Amy Piercy came to me last December, she had a big dream: IRONMAN California.

She also had some pretty big obstacles.

Debilitating plantar fasciitis and Achilles tendinopathy had made running painful. Completing 140.6 miles seemed a long way off.

But Amy had something injuries couldn't take away.

AN IRON WILL.

Month after month, she showed up. Rebuilding strength, restoring mobility, overcoming setbacks, and patiently preparing her body for the biggest challenge of her life.

It wasn't always pretty. It wasn't always easy.

But she never gave up.

And yesterday, Amy crossed the finish line at IRONMAN California!

🏊 2.4 miles swimming 🚴 112 miles cycling πŸƒ 26.2 miles running

140.6 MILES OF DETERMINATION!

Amy, watching you overcome everything that stood between you and that finish line has been an absolute privilege.

You had the iron will all along.

NOW YOU HAVE THE TITLE TO GO WITH IT!

AMY, YOU ARE AN IRONMAN! πŸ…

First Ironman. Ahead of schedule. Still smiling. 🏁
Congrats to MEA athlete Nicholas Foreman on finishing Ironman California last night.
At mile 18 I told him to pick up the pace. That's exactly what he did. When things got hard, he took care of business and just flew the plane.
140.6 miles on debut, and he beat the course. Proud of you, man! Now go eat everything.

Ironman California run course. Sacramento Triathlon Club and Total Body Fitness had this aid station dialed. Water, electrolytes, and a lot of cheering. Local tri community showing up. πŸ™Œ

California is tomorrow. Here's your 30-second race plan. πŸŠβ€β™‚οΈπŸš΄β€β™‚οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ Swim easy. Ride your zone. Drink on a schedule. Be the one still moving at mile 25. See you out there!

Can't sleep before your Ironman? That's normal. 😴
Almost nobody sleeps well the night before. Adrenaline, a 4 a.m. alarm, nerves. And Saturday night isn't the one that decides your race.
Tonight is. Two nights out is the one that counts.
Racing IRONMAN California Sunday?
βœ… Pack your gear and bags today
βœ… Eat what you know
βœ… Lights off early

Downriver swim. Flat bike. Flat run. Sounds fast. That's the trap. πŸ’¨
IRONMAN California's bike has a headwind out and a tailwind back. 12 mph out and 25 back is fine. Your body doesn't know your speed, only your effort.
And the biggest mistake I've seen out here? Athletes afraid to take a hand off the bars to drink.
Racing Sunday? Ignore the speedometer. Ride your zone. Drink on a schedule.

Taper week sucks. 😩
Less volume, a little intensity, and suddenly every twinge feels like an injury. You won't gain fitness this week. You won't lose any either.
What I never cut: mobility. Sunday you'll swim an hour, ride 5–7 hours in aero, then run (or walk) a marathon. Your hips, back and calves need to show up ready.
Three exercises. 2–4 minutes each. A little bit of the right stuff goes a long way.

Teachers, nurses, parents, people who train before sunrise, all out there with the pros. Legs tired, still moving forward. That's not talent. That's a decision.
What's the race that scares you? Drop it below πŸ‘‡
