Linda Dertinger Nelson Needs a Kidney Living Kidney Donation

Please help me share my story!

Hi, My name is Linda Dertinger Nelson and I need a kidney transplant. My kidney function has been deteriorating for years. I had my first transplant in 2014 but that kidney no longer functions and I am now on dialysis. I am now experiencing chronic fatigue, loss of strength, swelling of legs and feet and dizziness. Doing daily chores has become more difficult.

As soon as my need for a kidney become known, my family stepped up and volunteered to be tested. Unfortunately due to age or health, no-on was able to donate. I am now on home dialysis which I do every night for 8 hours. Because of this I can no longer travel to visit family out of state. The photo shows me and my grandchildren in Palo Alto, but the rest of my family lives in the Midwest, and I would like to be able to visit them.

Kidney Donor Facts:

Anyone in good health and over the age of 18 can donate.

The recipient's insurance covers the cost to the donor.

Donor can resume normal activity approximately two weeks after surgery.

You can live a long, healthy life with just one kidney.

Living donor kidney donations last, on average, about twice as long as kidneys from deceased donors.
