One scanner, (almost) limitless use cases.

What parts of your workflow does your iTero Lumina™ scanner touch? For Blackhart Dentistry, the answer is: most of them. Restorative, Invisalign® treatment, implants, diagnostic comparisons, patient education, all captured with the same iTero Lumina™ scanner already sitting in the clinic.

We designed the iTero Lumina scanner with all the capabilities to support the work you do, and we love seeing it show up across this many parts of a single workflow. It's a true scanner of all trades. 😊

Where does your iTero Lumina scanner show up in your workflow? Let us know in the comments.

What would you do with an extra 4.5 minutes saved per case?

Every file conversion, manual upload, and extra software step adds friction to the cases that come through the lab, long before any actual design work begins.

The iTero–exocad Connector™ is designed to close that gap, sending digital scans directly into exocad DentalCAD software with no conversions and no extra steps in between. For lab teams, that translates into real time savings: an average of 4.5 minutes saved per case,¹ and a meaningful reduction in the number of clicks needed to move a case from scan to design.²

Full and partial denture scanning can be tough, even for experienced hands.

Dentures are some of the most challenging cases to capture digitally: wide edentulous arches, mobile soft tissue, and a lack of fixed anatomical landmarks can make it difficult to get a clean, accurate scan on the first pass.

Dr. Todd Davis, a Heartland Dental supported doctor (Heartland Dental), demonstrates his approach to scanning for full and partial denture workflows. In the video above, he walks through his approach to scanning for dentures using the iTero Lumina™ scanner, which offers a 3× larger field of view for capturing more surface area in a single pass,¹ and is designed to scan up to 2× faster than the iTero Element™ 5D imaging system.²

Watch the video to learn more and pick up a few techniques you can bring into your own denture workflow.

When patients can see their potential future smile, the path forward becomes clearer. Dr. Manal Ibrahim sees it firsthand how Align digital tools can take patient engagement to the next level:

"These digital tools have been a game changer for how I interact with patients. When I can show patients exactly what I see, it helps guide our conversation. It’s now much easier for my patients to understand why treatment is recommended, to visualize the finish line we are going to achieve, and to get excited about starting their Invisalign® clear aligner journey."

What happens when every patient gets scanned, not just the complex cases?

A lack of common language can become a barrier to fully supporting patients as they make informed treatment decisions.

Dental therapist Cat Edney faced exactly this problem. And then something changed. After moving an underused iTero™ scanner into her own workflow, she began scanning every patient, not just the ones flagged for restorative work, and used the Align™ Oral Health Suite to walk patients through their own scans.

The impact was significant. In her own practice, Cat Edney explains how incorporating digital scanning into her workflow has helped support conversations with patients about their oral health and available treatment options. She reports that visual scan information helped support her discussions with patients.

She describes how she incorporated digital scanning more consistently into appropriate patient consultations.

Denture workflows don't have to mean more appointments.

In a new video, Dr. Jennifer Bell shares how she has used a more connected digital workflow to reshape her denture workflow, consolidating appointments, making outcomes more predictable, and reducing the back-and-forth shipping that used to slow the process down.

In Dr. Bell’s experience, traditional denture cases often involve multiple in-office visits and a lot of back-and-forth with the lab, adding time for both the practice and the patient, and this has made all the difference to her workflows.

By capturing a PVS wash impression and scanning it directly with the iTero Lumina™ scanner, Dr. Bell says data can reach her lab within the hour, letting prototype work begin almost immediately.

Do you want scans that are faster or more accurate? We say, “why choose?”

When it comes to intraoral scanning, faster can sometimes mean cutting corners, and more accurate can often mean slowing down. The iTero Lumina™ scanner set out to prove those assumptions wrong. Powered by iTero™ Multi-Direct Capture technology, the iTero Lumina™ scanner captures a 3x larger field of view¹ and scans up to 2x faster,² while still delivering full-jaw accuracy that outperformed four competitor scanners in independent bench testing.³

Rather than trading precision for speed, it captures more data, in less time, at a level of accuracy that supports predictable, first-time restoration fit.⁴

Has the iTero Lumina™ scanner changed your expectations for intraoral scanning? Share your experience in the comments.

Designing in-house starts with getting the right data at the right time.

For practices looking to bring digital design in-house, the iTero-exocad Connector™ is built to make that transition straightforward. Once a scan is captured, the information flows directly into exocad™ software, giving the design team everything they need to get started:

- Scans arrive directly into exocad software, cutting out extra steps between capture and design.¹
- Designs can be reviewed and approved, or sent back with feedback before moving to production.
- iTero™ NIRI technology (Near Infra-Red Imaging) brings enamel and dentin structure into view, supporting more aesthetic anterior restorations.

On average, teams using the iTero-exocad Connector™ report saving 4.5 minutes per case.²

A recent case study from Dr. Diana Tadros paints a full picture, following a complex aesthetic rehabilitation from initial scan through to final restoration. Read the full case study: https://bit.ly/iTero_Chairside-Aesthetic-Rehab
