Who am I?
I’ve grappled with this question a lot. Spiritual communities will encourage us to answer the question without naming all of the roles — mother, wife, sister, daughter, friend, doula, artist, gardener, witch, traveler & so on. I know what we’re getting at: “divine light/spirit/insert any description of infinite beings”. I can and do get down with this, but my ah-ha moment never came when playing with this question.
Something landed today. I witnessed a birth this morning, and it was different. I’m okay with not having the words as to why. I’ve seen births; I’ve birthed two babies from my own body. On my way home from the birth, I hd this song on, sobbing. And as I was sobbing, the clouds in the sky parted, making way for the most gorgeous morning light to shine through, seemingly right onto me. I was overwhelmed with the pure awareness of the love that is present in my life, and it was pouring out of me, into me, through me.
My love, your love, our love, one love, true love, pure love. We come from love, we come through love and we thrive when we are loved. Things happen that cloud this truth, make us afraid and doubtful and forget who we are, what we are. May we remember to choose love anyway. May we remember to ask, “what would love do here?”. It has never been more clear to me, that this is who I am.
