Looking at the sun without the right eye protection — for even a short time — can damage your retina permanently. In extreme causes, It can even cause blindness.

Keep in mind that ordinary sunglasses, even very dark ones, or homemade filters are not safe for looking at the sun.

There is only one safe way to look directly at the sun, whether during an eclipse or not: through special-purpose solar filters. These are called eclipse glasses, or solar filters that meet certain requirements.

If you experience discomfort or vision problems following the eclipse, visit your local doctor of optometry for an in-person, comprehensive eye exam. Make sure to get an eye exam once a year if you are over the age of 25.

According to multiple studies, in the United States 🇺🇸

🫀1 in 3 people have heart disease.
🫀Someone has a heart attack every 40 seconds.
🫀Most heart attacks happen on Monday because some people experience a surge in stress and anxiety about work, and a rise in adrenaline and cortisol levels can cause a heart attack.

Your heart is amazing!

🫀Your heart is located in the middle of your chest, but it is more situated on the left.

🫀It is divided into chambers — two upper chambers called the atria, and two lower chambers called the ventricles.

🫀Heart valves separate the chambers, and must open and close tightly to allow blood flow in one direction.

🫀The right side of the heart moves blood to the lungs 🫁 using the pulmonary arteries.

🫀In the lungs 🫁 , the blood gets oxygen 💨, and returns to the left side of the heart through the pulmonary veins.

🫀The left side of the heart pumps the blood through the aorta and to the rest of the body. 👫

🫀During contraction, which is systole, the lower heart chambers, the ventricles, squeeze and force blood through your arteries, to the lungs and the rest of the body.

🫀During relaxation, which is diastole, the ventricles fill with blood from the upper heart chambers, the atria. It is resting.

🫀Your heartbeat is an electrical system. This electrical signal starts in the upper right chamber, the right atrium, where the Sinoatrial node (SA node) is located. This is the battery of the heart.

🫀This signals travel down to the lower heart chambers, through the atrioventricular node (AV node), to the ventricles. This sets the rate and rhythm of your heart. This happens over and over again.

Each heartbeat is a miracle! You are a miracle!

February is American Heart 💝 Health Month.

Your heart is amazing!

💝Your heart beats about 115,000 times each day!
💝Your heart pumps about 2,000 gallons of blood every day, about 2 gallons per minute!
💝The human heart weighs less than 1 pound. However, a man’s heart, on average, is 2 ounces heavier than a woman’s heart.
💝A woman’s heart beats slightly faster than a man’s heart.
💓 The heart can beat outside of the body.
💝The average heart of an adult is the size of a fist.
💝An electrical system controls the rhythm of your heart. It’s called the cardiac conduction system. Your heart is lightening fast! One cardiac cycle—the contracting and relaxing of your heart, which is one heartbeat—takes about 0.8 seconds.
