Palm & Hum: A Pause for Your Eyes and Body

Close your eyes. Gently cup your palms over them without pressing. Hum softly on your exhale, letting your breath stay easy. Notice the vibration, your shoulders, and how you feel afterward.

A little less effort. A little more listening. This is Perceptual Ecology. 🌿

🌿 **A New Invitation: 3 Months of Perceptual Ecology**

What if seeing clearly isn't just about your eyes, but about how you inhabit your body, regulate your nervous system, and connect with the living world?

I'm excited to introduce my **3-Month Perceptual Ecology Program**, a guided journey into the relationship between vision, perception, embodiment, and nature.

Together, we'll explore how the eyes, brain, body, and environment participate in one continuous conversation.

Through functional vision principles, somatic awareness, movement, breath, and practical daily exercises, we'll explore a different way of experiencing ourselves and the world around us.

At the heart of this work is a simple progression:

**Orientation → Regulation → Action**

This isn't just about improving how you see. It's about expanding how you perceive, respond, move, and live.

An invitation to slow down, become curious, and discover new possibilities through direct experience.

🌿 **Perception before correction.**

Could your eyes and body be telling different stories about balance?

When exploring astigmatism, I’m curious about the whole person—how we tilt our head, hold our shoulders, and orient in space.

An “eye-body twist” is a way to explore those patterns, not a proven cause of astigmatism. The invitation is to notice: Are you bracing? Tilting? Can you soften your gaze and feel the support beneath your feet?

Awareness opens the door to new movement possibilities. 🌿

Hello Visionary Community,

I'm excited to share a new workshop with you!

Here is the link to join the workshop: It will be released October 22nd. https://drsambernesmembership.com

**Beyond the Eyes: Vestibular Vision, Brain Health & the Art of Regulation**

In this workshop, we're going to explore some fascinating connections between your eyes, brainstem, vestibular system, and nervous system.

Vision is much more than 20/20 eyesight. It's a dynamic process involving balance, movement, orientation, and how we respond to the world around us.

We'll also take a deeper look at cataracts and age-related macular degeneration (AMD)—what contributes to these conditions and how we can support long-term eye health.

I'll discuss intermittent fasting, the body's natural detoxification systems, and how lifestyle choices may influence metabolic and cellular health.

And because understanding something intellectually is only part of the experience, I'll guide you through a gentle **somatic practice designed to support nervous-system regulation**.

My intention is to give you both useful information and something practical you can bring into your daily life.

**In this workshop, we'll explore:**
- Vestibular vision and brainstem connections
- Cataracts and macular degeneration
- Intermittent fasting and cellular health
- Detoxification and the body's natural elimination systems
- A guided somatic practice for nervous-system balance

I hope this workshop inspires you to explore vision in a broader way—not just through your eyes, but through your entire body.

**Watch the new workshop in your membership library.**

Warmly,
Dr. Sam Berne

Hi everyone,

I’ve just added a new presentation to the membership:

Vision & Neuroplasticity: Rewiring How You See

I want to encourage you to take your time with this one.

There are many ideas and experiential layers in this presentation. Rather than watching it once and moving on to the next thing, I recommend watching it at least twice.

The first time, simply receive it. Listen. Watch. Notice what catches your attention.

Then come back to it.

On the second viewing, bring a notebook. Pause the video. Take notes. Try the experiences. Notice your breathing, your body, your visual field, and your responses.

One of the central ideas I want you to explore is that vision is not isolated in the eyes.

Seeing involves the brain and nervous system, but it also involves attention, movement, breathing, orientation, and the state of the entire organism.

That is why this isn't information I want you to race through.

Take your time embodying it.

You don't have to understand everything immediately. Let the ideas work on you. Experiment with what resonates and notice what you discover through your own experience.

I think you'll find a lot here to explore.

Enjoy the journey.

3 Simple Practices to Widen Your Awareness

Step outside. Pause the screen. Receive the space around you.

☀️ Spend time outdoors in morning light.
📱 Take regular screen breaks and look into the distance.
🌙 In soft, dim light, gently notice your peripheral surroundings without straining.

An invitation to shift from narrow focus into a wider experience of your body and environment.

Could Your Medication Be Affecting Your Vision?

Dry, irritated eyes? Trouble focusing? More sensitivity to bright light? Your medication list may be one piece of the puzzle.

Beta blockers can contribute to dry eye symptoms. Some anti-anxiety medicines may cause blurred vision or make focusing feel harder. Certain antibiotics, including doxycycline, can increase sensitivity to sunlight—which is different from light hurting your eyes.

These effects vary by medication and person. If a vision change began after you started a prescription, talk with your prescriber and eye doctor. Don’t stop a medication on your own.

What Slowing Down Lets Us Notice

I stood beside a stream and watched water move around a stone. The current kept flowing, but my attention settled.

I noticed the light on the water. I felt my feet on the ground. I became aware of the space around me.

In Perceptual Ecology, slowing down gives us time to sense more of our relationship with the world.

Try it for a moment today. Pause. Let your eyes rest on something nearby, then notice what you can see at the edges of your vision. Feel the ground beneath you. What becomes available when you give yourself a little more time?
