DSPs Make the Difference!

Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) are essential members of Maryland’s workforce who support people with I/DD in countless ways. Whether this means assisting with daily routines like cooking and personal hygiene - or making sure a person gets to their job in the community - DSPs are there every day, rain or shine, pandemic or not!

DSPs make a difference for people to ensure they have supports to live their best. People in the community who do not employ DSPs, or do not know a DSP, may not know much about what they do and the impact they make. We want to change that and recognize our DSPs today!

Moving into your own home is a significant moment in a person's life. Knowing when you are ready is key, and having the appropriate support is crucial. After many hours of discussing the idea with his family, Austin made the decision to move from his childhood home into a home of his own choosing. With the guidance of his family and several conversations with The Arc about what he was looking for, he was introduced to Richie, and they agreed to be roommates.

Within a few days, Austin and Richie became fast friends, enjoying virtual bingo, watching movies, ordering fast-food take-out, and cooking their own home-made meals too! Austin is very happy with his new lifestyle and is looking forward to enjoying his independence and exploring activities in an environment he controls.

Thank You!

We are excited to announce the award of an $18,250 grant from the Community Foundation of Anne Arundel County - Care. Connect. Contribute. to support Coping with COVID!

This program works with Dr. Karyn Harvey, an industry expert in clinical psychology, to help people with disabilities process their emotional response to the pandemic and identify ways to adapt to the many changes and disruptions in their lives.

Now that we are almost a year into the #COVID19 pandemic, we are supporting people to work through the long term effects this crisis will have. Thank you to the CFAAC for supporting this critical work!

The Arc offices are closed today in honor of Martin Luther King Day.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a social activist who played a key role in the American civil rights movement. Dr. King sought equality and human rights for African Americans, the economically disadvantaged, and all victims of injustice through peaceful protest. We honor Dr. King and the work he did on behalf of diversity, equity, and inclusion in our society and the reminder that everyone deserves respect and support.
