Let’s mask up right to protect each other!

Wear a mask when you’re in public to help slow the spread of COVID-19. When selecting a mask, you have many choices. Avoid masks that are made of materials that make it too hard to breathe. Also avoid masks with valves or vents that allow virus particles to escape and masks that should be saved for healthcare workers. Wear cloth masks with two or more layers to help protect yourself and others from COVID-19.

We are looking forward to seeing you soon!!

In a well-meaning attempt to protect kids from COVID-19, some parents are postponing well-child checkups, including appointments for vaccines and sports physicals. Keeping these scheduled visits can help kids stay healthy.

Introducing Telemedicine at West Vinings Pediatrics!
As part of our response to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are excited to offer telemedicine visits to our patients. These are video visits using your computer, tablet or smartphone with you, your child and your child’s doctor. Although they may not always prevent an in-person visit, we think that in many cases, we can help families to manage their children at home so that they can avoid an in-person medical visit and maintain the social distancing that is so important right now. Please call our office for more information.

During the current COVID-19 pandemic, we at West Vinings Pediatrics, are committed to the health and safety of all patients, their families and our own staff. These are stressful and uncertain times for all of us. But, we want for you to know that we are still here to serve you and your family. It is comforting to know that the vast majority of children will have mild illness with this disease. However, please know that you can call us if you have concerns or questions. Our current strategies to deal with this crisis include the following:
• Helping families to care for most children at home. We are available by phone to help advise you on how to care for children with these symptoms and to make sure that you know signs that he or she may need more care. We will also be providing telemedicine visits starting this week.
• We are continuing to clean patient rooms thoroughly between patients and are stepping up cleaning of our waiting rooms.
• We are scheduling well visits in the mornings and reserving afternoon slots for sick children who may need to be seen. We are screening all families for signs of illness prior to their arrival to the office.
• We are constantly monitoring updates in the situation and making decisions accordingly.

Please watch out for updates here or by email.

Stay home as much as possible and be safe and well.

Newborn Eye Color

This is a great review of newborn eye development.

Eye color is a genetic property, but it’s not quite as cut-and-dried as you might have learned in biology class. Because it takes about a year for melanocytes to finish their work it can be a dicey business calling eye color before the baby’s first birthday.
